Sr. Web Engineer - PHP (Laravel) LATAM

Summary

The Senior Web Engineer is responsible for bringing creativity and agility to make an immediate impact to help Foxbox clients build indispensable products. You be responsible for elevating an existing PHP web application by integrating diverse systems, mapping out its future state, and driving strategic improvements. In this client-facing role, you will work directly with senior stakeholders to understand business requirements, provide expert technical recommendations, and guide the product roadmap. You will ensure the application remains robust, scalable, and aligned with our clients’ evolving needs while mentoring team members and fostering an innovative environment.. You will also work with other developers, product owners, and designers to create a fully functional and visually appealing product. This position requires a collaborative mindset to deliver high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a high-performance PHP Laravel web application with a focus on quality, scalability and security.
• Provide technical guidance to product owners, designers, and developers to drive high-quality software delivery.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and client meetings, actively seeking feedback to improve relationships and development processes.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade software to improve functionality and performance.
• Write and maintain robust unit tests using PHPUnit to ensure code reliability and facilitate smooth deployments.
• Ensure best practices for security and data protection solutions within the system architecture.
• Prioritize and assess feature requests, balancing technical feasibility with business needs.
• Stay up to date with backend development trends and technologies, evaluating multiple solutions and assessing trade-offs to make informed decisions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, distilling complex technical concepts into clear, actionable work items.
• Accurately log billable and non-billable hours daily to support project tracking and client billing.

• Identifies opportunities to collaborate with other team members across Foxbox.

Requirements

Who You are:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in PHP development.
• 3+ years of proven expertise in the Laravel framework and its ecosystem.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts.
• Experience with relational databases like MySQL and ORM frameworks such as Eloquent.
• Familiarity with front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Proficient in writing and maintaining unit tests using PHPUnit or similar PHP testing frameworks.
• Proven experience in developing, maintaining, and optimizing PHP web applications.
• Strong proficiency in systems integration, including working with RESTful APIs and third-party services.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze existing products, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently while also guiding and mentoring team members.
• Comfortable developing backend features and implementing frontend UIs based on mockups.
• Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.
• Prior experience working in a professional services or consulting environment is required.
• Fluency in English is a must.
