Position Overview:

Coordinates and performs educational activities that promote the competency and development of Sutter Health's social work staff, including orientation, competency validation, in-service, and continuing education. Assesses, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates social work educational programs in response to health care demands, trends, identified learning needs, department goals, quality improvement measures, risk management, regulatory changes, and compliance criteria. Designs educational offerings (courses, simulations, programs) using processes and methodologies that incorporate the principles of adult education and learning styles. Directs the delivery of education for social work orientation, conducts competency assessments, facilitates ongoing development, and establishes courses and programs based on annual needs assessments and educational compliance requirements. Delivers educational activities that validate, develop, maintain, and enhance the knowledge and skills of social work staff. Maintains educational and competency records in compliance with hospital, Department of Healthcare Services (DHS), The Joint Commission (TJC), and other regulatory standards.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

TRAINING.

  • Participates in the development, implementation, and delivery of centralized education offerings (skill modules, self-study series, interactive online courses, audio-visual aides, etc.) that meet staff and/or patient needs, including:
  • Orientation for new hires or travelers
  • Competency assessment/validation/development programs in areas such as:
    • Crisis intervention
    • Behavioral health protocols
    • Family and patient-centered care approaches
    • Regulatory documentation standards
  • Training for new or updated protocols, policies, processes, or equipment
  • Clinical practice in-services
  • Continuing education
  • Community health and psychosocial wellness
  • Manages social work-specific training simulations, role-playing scenarios, and other interactive educational tools to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Routinely reviews and updates teaching materials and presentations to reflect new information, integrate feedback, and meet department goals and objectives.
  • Implements educational programs and classes using learning modalities that maximize resources while maintaining participant engagement.
  • Provides training support, including materials (created or purchased), securing equipment and rooms, scheduling, analyzing and reporting class evaluations, and documenting attendance.
  • Participates in the selection, training, and ongoing development of clinical preceptors and field instructors for social work students and new hires.
  • Collaborates with supervisors to develop corrective action plans (if necessary) and ensure training completion is documented as per compliance procedures.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

  • Serves as the technical expert for programming and running patient simulation scenarios relevant to social work, including crisis intervention, patient advocacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Develops engaging presentations in collaboration with other educators.
  • Maintains the department’s educational website, ensuring content meets organizational, departmental, and legal requirements.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.

  • Collaborates to develop and implement new programs, classes, and educational materials based on learning needs assessments, evaluations, organizational priorities, and technical advancements.
  • Assists in the development and revision of training materials to accurately reflect changes in organizational guidelines, social work protocols, and local/state/federal regulations.
  • Functions as a clinical resource for social work staff, students, and faculty.
  • Pursues professional development through continuing education and adult learning principles.

COMPLIANCE.

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing clinical competency assessments, including classroom or in-service instruction and on-site follow-up.
  • Collaborates with departments to monitor and resolve regulatory issues and develop corrective action plans.
  • Complies with laws and regulations governing healthcare, adhering to evidence-based practice and patient advocacy principles.
  • Maintains professional certification and expertise, including attending workshops and maintaining membership in professional social work organizations.
  •  Ensures compliance with all State and Joint Commission requirements related to staff orientation, competence, and ongoing development.

EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

LCSW-Licensed Clinical Social Worker

ACM-SW-Accredited Case Manager – Social Work by the American Case Management Association (ACMA)

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:     

5 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Broad knowledge of clinical social work practices, including current trends, safety policies, electronic healthcare records (EHR), and local/state/federal regulations.
  • Working knowledge of adult teaching/learning theories and program design, implementation, and evaluation processes.
  • General knowledge of the scope of social work practice, evidence-based interventions, ethics, and patient rights.
  • Ability to create and deliver educational content clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with educational platforms.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and collaborate within teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide new perspectives on existing solutions.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with patient privacy standard.

Pay Range is $49.34 to $66.60 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
