Job description

Overview of the role:
Join us at PolicyMe! We're modernizing insurance and we'd like your help. The Canadian insurance landscape has remained largely unchanged for decades and we are in the process of changing that. We're a remote-first, Toronto-based startup with big ambitions.

As a Business Development Representative, you will play a critical role in nurturing inbound leads and converting them into sales opportunities. You will be responsible for engaging with prospective clients who have expressed interest in our insurance solutions, qualifying them, and scheduling meetings for the advisor team. This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and a passion for the insurance industry.

You’ll be at the forefront of driving revenue growth, directly contributing to PolicyMe’s success by turning leads into high-quality opportunities.

Build & Shape This Role:
This is a brand-new role, which means you’ll have the unique opportunity to help define and build the business development function from the ground up. We’re looking for someone who is eager to support so that we can experiment, refine strategies, and establish best practices to drive efficiency and results. Your insights and feedback will be instrumental in shaping how we approach lead conversion, outreach, and engagement.

If you're excited about not just executing but also supporting in creating the playbook, this is the perfect opportunity to make a lasting impact. You’ll have the freedom to test new ideas, collaborate cross-functionally, and influence how we engage with potential clients.

What you'll be doing:
  • Engage with inbound leads through phone calls, emails, and online chat to understand their needs and determine fit.
  • Qualify leads and schedule meetings or calls for advisors.
  • Provide potential clients with information on our insurance products and services, ensuring a smooth handoff to the advisor team.
  • Maintain and update CRM records with detailed notes on interactions and deal progress.
  • Work closely with the Advisor and Operations teams to optimize lead nurturing strategies and conversion processes.
  • Meet or exceed monthly conversion and engagement targets.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and competitive offerings.
  • Represent PolicyMe in a professional and client-centric manner.
  • Analyze lead data to identify trends and suggest improvements to outreach strategies.

  • What we are looking for:
  • 1-3 years of experience in sales, business development, or a similar role (preferably in the insurance or financial services industry).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience handling inbound leads and qualifying potential clients.
  • Proficiency with CRM software (HubSpot) and lead management tools.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a willingness to adapt and pivot as strategies evolve.

  • Reports to: Customer Success Manager

    Why join us:
  • Generous PTO - 20 vacation days
  • Access to stock options, and health benefits
  • A remote-first team with company paid, in-person socials and the option to work from our Toronto-based office
  • Resources to help your professional development, including an L&D budget, performance reviews twice a year and ongoing feedback to ensure you reach your highest potential
  • Work with an empathetic, high-performing team in a flexible, results-oriented environment
