What’s the role?
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead how Etsy’s app program approaches mobile development environment setup practices, and capabilities, how we optimize our CI, and both coordinating and improving our app release process, tooling, & capabilities.
You will optimize app code delivery, minimize workflow interruptions, and ensure timely, safe app rollouts. As the go-to expert on app releases, you’ll manage iOS and Android store issues, collaborate with QA and engineering teams, and set the technical and strategic direction for a dedicated Release Engineering team.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Mexico City office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What’s this team like at Etsy?
You will be part of an engineering team within our Product Enablement Group, responsible for ensuring engineers can deliver code at important parts of the development lifecycle.
Day to day the team responds to needs relating to setup scripts, CI integrations, GitHub checks, and release related requests.
You will have the opportunity to set the day to day practices of how the team balances KTLO work with progressing process, tooling, and infrastructure.
As part of the role you will be responsible for planning the long term strategy for how the team develops processes and tooling around how engineers at Etsy to build faster and with more confidence.

What does the day-to-day look like?
Establish a team process to drive forward how Etsy approaches delivering software to users.
Lead the team to assess, manage, and update critical infrastructure relating to local development, CI, GitHub, checks, middleware, and internal tooling.
Establish and monitor metrics that identify bottlenecks in the software delivery process to streamline how engineers deliver new features to users.
Prioritize, scope, plan, develop, and deliver projects at various completion stages or definitions when started.
Participate in the end-to-end recruiting process, hiring, and onboarding exceptional engineering talent.
Partner cross-functionally with Product and Engineering to ensure that your team is delivering value for our contributors.
Participate in defining and achieving Objectives and Key Results for your team.
Use your previous technical expertise to help challenge and shape your team's technical decisions and direction.
Facilitate the day to day delivery and management of Etsy’s family of Buyer and Seller facing apps fielding any interruptions that threaten to disrupt the process.
Be a direct partner maintaining relationships with Apple/Google.
Drive release process optimizations.
Develop compliance processes with direct engineering partners.
Provide partnership to stakeholders from across the business that provide translations, app store changes, asset refreshes, content updates, and drive traffic to the store to ensure they can do their jobs effectively.
Collaboration is critical in this role. You will work closely with other engineering teams across Etsy, advocating for and motivating change on behalf of your teams.
At Etsy, engineering managers have a limited role in the hands-on process of building software but a huge role in orchestrating and coaching engineers to achieve results together.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
3+ years of experience managing engineers, providing mentorship, feedback, and career growth support.
Strong background in Native App Development (Swift/Objective-C for iOS or Kotlin/Java for Android) with experience delivering apps at scale.
Ability to make informed engineering trade-offs based on context.
Effective collaboration with both junior and senior team members.
Experience managing iOS and Android app releases and using release tooling (e.g., Fastlane).
Skilled in balancing automation and human oversight in the release process.
Proven track record of monitoring and improving mobile software delivery.
