Senior Global Technical Accountant
London / Hybrid working - Up to 3 days per week working remotely
Up to £75,000 base salary depending on experience + 10% Bonus, Pension, Private Healthcare
Permanent / 35 hours per week

The Senior Global Technical Accountant works within the Group Reporting Team (GRT) that manages Bupa’s Statutory Reporting process and provides a technical centre of excellence to finance colleagues across Bupa. The role will work to effectively evaluate and embed key IFRS reporting requirements, providing critical technical guidance on business developments and ensuring ongoing compliance with relevant accounting standards and reporting requirements. This role will also support regular Group statutory and regulatory reporting processes.
How you’ll help us make health happen:
Maintain Bupa’s Technical Accounting Policy Manual and other accounting policy documentation, ensuring that they reflect the latest requirements and are well understood across Bupa.
Support the smooth running of the Half Year and Annual Reporting cycles, including the Group consolidation and preparation of Group HY and FY financial statements.
Act as an advisory point for accounting guidance and work with Market Units and other Group Finance functions to find solutions to accounting issues and to drive consistent application of accounting policies across the Group.
Update and review the proforma Annual Report and Accounts and Half Yearly financial statements to maintain compliance with IFRS, FRC guidance and other relevant legislation.
Horizon scanning forthcoming external industry and accounting developments to ensure that any implications to Bupa are considered on a timely basis.
Support the Group’s reporting framework by ensuring the compliance with relevant accounting standards and industry/FRC guidance.
Support engagement with the Group’s Auditors in relevant areas such as technical accounting issues, key areas of judgement and changes in accounting policy.
Work with the other members of the Financial Reporting Team to support the practical implementation and embedding of new accounting treatments or accounting standards into Financial Reporting systems and processes.
Work on ad-hoc projects to ensure that all accounting and financial reporting issues are fully understood and addressed.
Support the transition of relevant technical change projects into BAU reporting.
Provide administration support to the Group Reporting and Disclosure Committee.
What you'll bring:
We are looking for an ambitious individual with excellent communication and technical accounting skills. Planning and prioritising are crucial to the role allowing you to make effective decisions, solve problems and increase efficiency of working.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
Professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, ACA).
Excellent knowledge of IFRS and its application plus UK GAAP and other relevant requirements.
Experience of working in a Technical Accounting and/or Group Reporting roles in the Financial Services industry preferred.
Appreciation of wider reporting requirements (e.g. Group consolidation/FP&A/regulatory reporting).
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial reporting matters in a language which is suitable for stakeholders of different levels and public disclosure.
Ability to work effectively under pressure. Managing conflicting tasks, demands and deadlines.
