IT Storage Administrator

We are seeking an IT Storage Administrator on a short-term contract to support a storage decommissioning project. You will migrate data from on-premises NetApp systems to AWS and GCP environments, then decommission existing SAN units and finalize documentation and handover.

Assignment Details:

40 hours a week

Start date: ASAP

End date: 4–6 months

Hourly Rate: $55-60

Location: Remote - US

Assignment Responsibilities:

Storage Administration & Decommission

Manage existing NetApp, Hitachi, EMC SAN/NAS systems, including volumes, aggregates, and SnapMirror relationships, mainly NetApp.
Plan and perform storage array decommission steps—zeroing disks, removing sensitive data, performing scream tests and coordinating hardware removal.

Data Migration to AWS & GCP

Execute and monitor storage replication and data cutovers from NetApp, Hitachi, and EMC arrays to cloud-based platforms (AWS S3, EFS, EBS, Google Cloud Storage, Google Drive).
Ensure data integrity and minimal downtime throughout the migration.

Collaboration & Coordination

Work closely with the infrastructure, cloud, and networking teams to schedule migrations and troubleshoot connectivity or performance issues.
Provide clear communication to stakeholders on project milestones, risks, and timelines.

Documentation & Handover

Maintain comprehensive runbooks, migration plans, and final decommission checklists.
Deliver a post-decommission report summarizing procedures, lessons learned, and environment changes.

Performance & Optimization (preferred but not required)

Analyze storage usage patterns and recommend optimizations (e.g., tiering, deduplication, compression) to reduce costs and improve performance in the cloud.
Implement best practices for security, backup, and disaster recovery in the new AWS/GCP environment.

Skills/Experience:

3+ years of hands-on NetApp storage administration (ONTAP, SnapMirror, SAN/NAS configurations), and Hitachi and EMC storage administration experience.
Experience with data migration to public cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).
Strong understanding of storage networking (FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB) and best practices.
Proven ability to plan and execute complex data migration projects.
Familiarity with cloud storage services (AWS S3, EFS, GCP) and security controls.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional, remote teams under tight deadlines.
Certifications (NetApp, AWS, GCP) are a plus.
