Overview:
BerryDunn’s Health Analytics Practice Group (HAPG) is dedicated to supporting decision-makers in state government healthcare agencies, mission-driven nonprofits, and other public and private sector organizations. Our team applies deep expertise in actuarial and data science, health economics, policy analysis, and advanced analytics to help clients address challenges such as ensuring appropriate payment levels, understanding cost and risk exposure, and leveraging data for operational, clinical, and strategic decisions.
As a Health Economist, you will work on projects that apply targeted expertise in health economics to real-world challenges faced by decision-makers. This role offers opportunities to address a range of health policy challenges, including payment reform, enhancing insurance and provider market functioning, and evaluating the effectiveness of health programs and interventions. You will collaborate on project teams to conduct literature reviews, design and implement data analyses, develop models, and prepare reports and presentations. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to lead project teams, mentor junior staff, and engage directly with clients to manage projects and shape future work.
This position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, such as:
- Designing innovative payment models that enhance system-wide efficiency, such as global budgets, value-based models, and multi-payer frameworks.
- Analyzing provider and insurance market dynamics, including pricing, competition, and regulatory impacts, to inform decision-making and policy development.
- Conducting comprehensive evaluations of healthcare policies and programs to assess their impact on spending, access, quality, and outcomes.
- Supporting the integration of social determinants of health and equity frameworks into payment and delivery system reforms.
As part of HAPG, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of health economists, actuaries, policy analysts, data scientists, and other professionals. You Will:
- Design and implement economic and policy analyses using healthcare datasets (e.g., claims and eligibility), applying techniques such as predictive modeling and econometrics to inform decision-making and policy development.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including data analysts, actuaries, and policy experts, to design and execute analyses, ensuring results align with client goals and project objectives.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and visualizations that effectively communicate technical findings to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
- Stay informed of emerging trends and advancements in health economics, healthcare payment and financing policy, and analytics methodologies.
- Contribute to business development by participating in proposal writing and identifying opportunities to expand our service offerings.
You Have:
- A detailed-oriented, problem-solving mindset and enjoy tackling complex challenges using data and evidence
- A collaborative, team player approach with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A clear and effective communication style, capable of translating technical analyses into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
- A Master’s degree (required) or PhD (preferred) in Economics, Health Economics, Health
Services Research, Health Policy or a related field. - 3-5+ years of experience in health economics, policy research, or data analysis.
- Advanced expertise with statistical software (e.g., R, STATA, or SAS) and proficiency in
working with large datasets, including claims and other healthcare data. - Strong knowledge of quantitative research methods, econometrics, and/or program
evaluation techniques. - Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey technical
concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple
priorities effectively.
Preferred:
- Experience analyzing Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance data.
- Familiarity with population health, social determinants of health, or equity-focused evaluation frameworks.
- Knowledge of healthcare payment models and financing concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to proposal development, including responding to RFPs and shaping client engagement strategies.
Compensation Details:
The base salary range targeted for this role is $135,000 - $180,000. This salary range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
