The Vice President of Product Engineering will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer and is responsible for leading and scaling 1Password's core and future engineering teams and for driving strong cross-functional partnership with the Product Management Organization. The VP sets the department’s strategic direction, oversees operations, drives delivery, and develops a high-performing team to achieve impactful results.
This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
What we're looking for:Experience: 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably within the SaaS or cybersecurity industry.Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related fields; or equivalent work experienceProven track record of delivering high-quality consumer-facing software products, operational efficiency and market expansionStrong business acumen with expertise in software engineering best practices and innovation Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop and execute strategic plans that drive measurable results.Extensive experience in building and maintaining operational excellence, including process and system optimization, scalability, and the development and management of performance metrics.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with C-suite leaders and cross-functional teams, aligning on strategic priorities to achieve shared objectives.Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly, build trust, and gain alignment across diverse stakeholders.Proven expertise in leading and sustaining transformational initiatives in fast-paced, complex, and dynamic environments.Strong history of building, developing and scaling high-performing teams.What you can expect:Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the Product Engineering vision, objectives, and roadmaps aligned with company strategy. Analyze market and industry trends, competitive landscape, and customer insights to identify growth opportunities and inform strategic decision-making.Company Initiatives: Lead key strategic initiatives to drive best-in-class engineering through engagement and innovationOperations: Lead the assessment of the department's current structure, practices, processes, and systems to identify improvements. Drive the development and execution of a strategic plan to boost operational excellence and scalability. Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to business objectives & implement dashboards that provide actionable insights to the executive team and department leaders to make data-informed business decisions. Cross-functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships across the company to identify key needs, align on strategy, and optimize teams and effort for company impact. Foster collaboration within and beyond the Technology organization to influence change. Receive and give critical feedback and focus on achieving strategic goals with others. Is able to effectively influence 360°. Represent the department in senior leadership meetings, providing updates on performance and strategic initiatives.Customer/Industry Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with Product, Design, HR and other areas to drive continuous improvement and technological innovation Change Management: Lead and sustain organizational change, overseeing the planning, communication, execution, evaluation, and continuous improvement of integrated change initiatives. Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team by mentoring and coaching direct reports, evaluating departmental talent, and implementing plans to prepare talent for future business demands. Leadership Growth: Invest in the growth and development of the leaders within Tech and across 1Password via direct mentorship, speaking at other team’s events, and partnering with HR, Engineering Operations and L&D.Culture and Org Health: Drive a high-performance culture that fosters psychological safety, inclusivity, ownership, and agility. Champion initiatives to enhance the employee experience department- and company-wide.Financial Oversight: In partnership with Finance, oversee the departmental budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control. Monitor financial performance against budget targets and make necessary adjustments. Analyze financial data to identify opportunities for improvement.USA-based roles only: The Annual base salary for this role is between $333,000 USD and $451,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
Canada-based roles only: The Annual base salary for this role is between $308,000 CAD and $416,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
At 1Password, we approach each individual's compensation with a promise of fair market value and internal equity commensurate with experience and specific skill set.
We believe in the power of remote work, but we also recognize that in-person connection is sometimes important to help us achieve our mission. While we are a remote-first company, occasional travel for in-person engagement will be a part of this role. Frequency will depend on role and responsibilities, and may include, but is not limited to, annual department-wide offsites, team meetings, and customer/industry events. These events will typically be held in varying locations across Canada and the US.
