Convergent Research is a non-profit science studio best known for pioneering the
Focused Research Organization (FRO). We architect pivotal infrastructure that removes bottlenecks to breakthrough scientific research.
FROs are a new operating model for science that ensures rapid iteration cycles and high-throughput learning. Convergent secures funding and provides an operational backbone for counterfactual R&D, creating space for scientists to do what they do best. FRO teams are agile, creative, and risk-tolerant as a result. They make fast progress because they start and stay focused.
About the Role
At Convergent Research, we’re not just supporting science—we’re helping launch bold, world-changing research initiatives (aka FROs). And as you might imagine, that means we’re dealing with a lot of moving parts—especially when it comes to compliance.
That’s where you come in.
We need an Operations Manager who thrives on keeping things organized, tackling ambiguous challenges, and ensuring that all the behind-the-scenes logistics and compliance requirements run like a well-oiled machine. Whether it’s handling entity registrations, ensuring insurance policies meet regulatory standards, maintaining spotless documentation, or making sure our IT and facilities vendors follow all the right protocols, you’ll be at the center of it all.
This isn’t just about making checklists (though we love a good checklist). It’s about making sure we stay compliant with all necessary regulations, proactively solving problems before they arise, and ensuring that when an FRO needs something—whether it’s an updated policy, a legal filing, or documentation for a grant—you’re already three steps ahead.
You are A compliance guardian – but with a pragmatic edge. You understand the importance of rules, regulations, and documentation, and you make sure we’re always on the right side of them. At the same time, you know that compliance isn’t about saying “no” – it’s about finding a way to get to “yes” while staying within the guardrails. You balance structure with flexibility, ensuring that regulations support, rather than hinder, progress.A resourceful problem-solver – Our FROs are often venturing into uncharted territory, and you love figuring things out when there’s no clear playbook.A great communicator – You can keep internal and external stakeholders informed, nudge people when needed (with persistence and kindness), and know when a quick call beats an email chain.Highly organized and detail-obsessed – You catch the small stuff before it turns into a big problem, and you keep meticulous records. Spreadsheets, Notion pages, compliance documentation? You’ve got it all under control. But you also know that sometimes priorities shift, and you can recalibrate quickly without losing sight of the big picture.A master juggler – Startups move fast. You can shift priorities on the fly, manage multiple tasks at once, and still keep everything running smoothly. You have a keen sense of when to be rigorous and when to be flexible, making judgment calls that keep things moving forward without unnecessary bureaucracy. (Actual juggling skills? Bonus points.)You will Own our entity registrations – Work with our Legal, HR, and Finance teams to ensure all FROs have the right registrations in place (and yes, that means some paperwork).Manage our insurance broker – Ensure every FRO has the right coverage, oversee annual renewals, and handle new policy setups—all while staying compliant with regulations.Keep our documentation audit-ready – Take ownership of our Notion knowledge base, ensuring policies and processes are clear, up to date, and ready for internal and external audits.Be the go-to for IT and facilities compliance – We work with external vendors for both, but you’ll be the point person making sure they meet our security, privacy, and operational standards.Assist with grant compliance – Help with government and private grant submissions, ensuring we meet all requirements and have the right documentation to back it up.In Your First 6 Months, You Will:Become our primary point of contact for compliance-related questions in insurance, facilities, and IT—if something comes up, you’re the one with the answers.Complete a comprehensive compliance review of our documentation, identifying gaps and making improvements to ensure we meet all regulatory requirements.Be the go-to person for any new FRO activities that impact filings, insurance, permitting, and compliance—ensuring nothing falls through the cracks. We offer (great benefits)An opportunity to change the world and work with some of the smartest and the most talented experts from different fieldsCompetitive salary with up to a 6% 401k match.
