Summary of Job Duties:
A Medical Laboratory Scientist I - Chemistry will collect, process, and analyze biological samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) using various laboratory instruments and techniques. They are responsible for ensuring accurate test results, maintaining equipment, adhering to quality control standards, and managing laboratory records.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences OR an approved ASCP discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's).

  • ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous clinical laboratory experience

  • ASCP certification


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Processes and evaluates specimens and performs appropriate tests to assist with detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Records and evaluates daily, weekly, and monthly quality control issues in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor. 
  • Maintains safe work practices, follows all regulatory requirements and engages supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.
  • Assists with day-to-day operations of assigned section in Core Lab.
