About the Role

Our mission is to revolutionize how teams collaborate and work together. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a QA Analyst who will play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our platform. In this role, you'll contribute to delivering exceptional user experiences by designing and executing robust test plans, maintaining high standards of quality, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

We're a remote-first organization, but have offices and co-working spaces available throughout Canada in Ottawa (our HQ), Montreal, and Toronto where you can pop in to work with other team members if you want some in-person time! Bonus points if you’ve worked remotely before and are excited about building a product that enables remote teams to work better together!

What You'll Do (ie, Responsibilities):

  • Participate in the project lifecycle from inception to deployment, attending planning meetings and regular check-ins to provide feedback on scope, functionality, and design.
  • Collaborate with QA, Product, Design, and Engineering teams to define quality thresholds, ensure end-to-end testability, and align on scenarios and goals.
  • Provide UX feedback during design and implementation, bringing the customer perspective to projects and identifying edge cases or gaps in functionality.
  • Analyze requirements, functional designs, and use cases for validity and feasibility throughout the implementation process, especially when serving as a test lead.
  • Create and maintain detailed test plans for Web, Desktop, and Mobile applications, ensuring coverage of critical workflows and edge cases.
  • Collaborate effectively with other QA team members and developers, maintaining clear communication about requirements, progress, and potential issues.
  • Perform exploratory testing beyond defined test cases to uncover edge cases and ensure comprehensive coverage of new features and workflows.
  • Create, execute, and maintain automated end-to-end tests, regularly updating test cases to accommodate changes, resolve issues, and minimize false positives.
  • Monitor and maintain regression and smoke test suites, investigating failures, escalating issues as needed, and optimizing for reliability and impact.
  • Ensure deployment readiness by verifying tickets, running manual and automated tests, and providing release approval.
  • Monitor post-deployment environments, performing quick checks for critical functionality, addressing user-reported issues, and providing feedback.
  • Support the Customer Support team in resolving complex cases and triaging defects, ensuring issues are tracked and resolved efficiently.

What We're Looking For (ie, Qualifications):

  • 4+ years of manual QA experience with web, desktop, and/or mobile applications.
  • Experience with creating, executing, and maintaining automated tests.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with developers, other QA team members, and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with browser dev-tools for debugging (e.g., element inspector, console, network inspector)
  • The ability to intuitively distinguish between bugs, UX feedback, and feature requests is essential.
  • Friendly, approachable, and willing to help other team members, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Proactive in sharing knowledge, best practices, and insights to help improve team processes and collective expertise.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills to balance multiple projects and tasks effectively.
  • Reachable for occasional late deployments to ensure smooth releases and address any unexpected issues.
  • Expert at QA workflows, ticket management tools (e.g., Linear), and deployment activities.
  • Analytical mindset to identify potential issues early and suggest solutions proactively.
  • Familiarity with browser dev-tools for debugging (e.g., element inspector, console, network inspector).

What We're NOT Looking For:

  • A QA Engineer focused solely on automation. While automation experience is a plus, this role is focused on manual QA and holistic testing.
  • A "checkbox" tester. We want a strategic thinker who anticipates user behaviors, models complex processes, and provides actionable feedback.

The Fine Print

  • We’re 100% remote, but candidates must reside in Canada and be legally entitled to work for any employer.
  • Fellow has broad ambitions. We’re very agile and a place where changes happen fast and all the time. You have to enjoy the challenge of constantly learning and growing in your role, and rolling up your sleeves to make things happen.
  • Fellow is a startup. Our environment is suited for people who thrive in experimentation, and making educated guesses with, at times, limited information. If you prefer a more structured work environment with well defined boundaries, this is not the place for you.
  • You’ll have the autonomy to schedule your work to fit your schedule, but generally, everyone at Fellow has meeting availability between 10:00am and 5:00 pm Eastern Time.

Equal Opportunity Employer

At Fellow, we understand the value of having a diverse team. That’s why we believe in providing equal opportunity employment regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, disability, and conviction. Please let us know if you require accommodation during the recruitment process.
