Supervisor, Clinical Diagnostics (Exome reporting) - Remote, USA
The Supervisor, Clinical Diagnostics is responsible for overseeing day-to-day needs of direct reports. The Supervisor, Clinical Diagnostics identifies reporting issues, suggests options for improvements, and provides data to managers for implementation of procedural changes in order to maintain or improve the team’s analysis, report quality, and turnaround time. Additional responsibilities include leading discussions/meetings, and training of other team members.
Essential Functions:
- Manage the day-to-day needs of direct reports, including maintaining job performance, distributing workload, approving time off and reimbursement requests, and leading monthly/quarterly employee check-ins.
- Organize & lead discussions and trainings regarding reporting protocols applicable to the specific position or specialty
- Identify reporting and information technology issues, suggest options for system improvements, and provide appropriate follow-up for implementation.
- Maintain expertise in clinical and technical aspects related to the specific position, and communicate with other internal departments to resolve/escalate issues as appropriate.
- Interpret results from diagnostic testing in accordance with established SOPs, WIs, and reporting Policies
- Generate clinical test reports or analyze test results in an efficient and accurate manner in order to meet requirements for quality and turnaround time, identify reporting issues, suggest options for process improvements, and assist with any appropriate follow-up for implementation.
- Ensure supervisees are following training documents, SOPs, templates, sample reports, and guidelines for reporting procedures
- Assist in calculating and maintaining team metrics.
- Active participation and initiation of cross-departmental efforts/projects
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- MS in Genetic Counseling from an accredited institution. or PhD with concentration in genetics or other appropriate biological science. Prior experience in clinical genetics analysis and/or reporting is required.
- New Hire: at least 8 years of experience in relevant reporting specialty, with at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory role. Must possess strong working knowledge of human genetics, diagnostic genetic testing concepts, and testing methodologies.

Current Employee: 2-years minimum as a Sr. Genetic Counselor or Sr. Clinical Scientist or other similar role or 3-4 years minimum as a Genetic Counselor II or Clinical Scientist II or other similar role with demonstrated proficiency in primary workflows, systems, and core technical areas (e.g. literature review, variant assessment, evidence summaries, data review). Demonstrated leadership, time management, and problem-solving abilities through increasing project involvement. Must have history of successful, increasing involvement in trainings & meetings. Promotion to Supervisor is at the discretion of a manager/director.

Thorough and ongoing knowledge of current theories and principles of human genetics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Active contribution to intra- and inter-departmental meetings and trainings.
- Maintain current knowledge in the information technology systems needed to perform tasks relevant to the specific position, identify IT issues, suggest options for system improvements, and assist with any appropriate follow-up for implementation.
- Maintain expertise in clinical and technical aspects related to the specific position and communicate with other internal departments to resolve/escalate issues as appropriate.
- Interpretation of clinical diagnostic testing results in accordance with established SOPs, WIs, and policies
- Variant assessment and classification experience
- Independently perform reporting role with clear and accurate results, identify analysis and/or reporting issues, suggest options for process improvements, and assist with any appropriate follow-up for implementation.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively across departmental teams.
- Demonstrated basic project management skills.
- Ability to assess employee performance and address issues, escalating to Manager and/or Director as needed.
- Basic leadership and coaching skills; able to address performance issues in a constructive manner and encourage professional and technical growth for team members.
Preferred:
- ABGC Board Certification and state licensure (when applicable) preferred
- Experience in a diagnostic testing laboratory
