Lead Candidate Identified 

How you’ll have an impact at Paula’s Choice:

The Global Director of Retail Marketing is a key hire that will have both a global/local (North America) responsibility – a retail relationship and retail marketing guru.

The Director will be a critical partner to the Chief Retail Officer and the company at large to help elevate and unlock all retail marketing programs across all consumer touchpoints at retail, making big moves and maximizing all efforts. In this capacity, the Director will help grow the global retail business in addition to helping to meet annual sales and marketing goals. In this net-new role and with a global lens -- the Director will be ideating and securing all retail marketing activations (social, in store, advertising, digital, sampling and the like) contributing to all 360s programs and plans, annual and future plans, to dominate at retail. The Director will lead all retail marketing efforts for North America, as primary focus, as well as create the global retail marketing directives for international teams on newness, core and new country launches -- to explode the business and make a mark. This is a highly collaborative role that requires someone who truly loves people/relationships, beauty and retail. This person will have an entrepreneurial and growth mind set, while ensuring the integrity of teams and the brand, and retail relationship, in the process.

How You’ll Have an Impact at Paula’s Choice (Key Responsibilities):

  • Create strategic retail marketing 360 programs in partnership with Sephora, as well as create global directives to elevate, unlock and drive market share gains within Sephora to grow brand love and product awareness (internally at Sephora HQ, with BAs, Sephora customers and influencers) in our #1 market (North America) as well globally (via directives, giving regions room to localize plans)
  • Lead and own the following retail marketing levers - related objectives, results, budget, briefs, ROI (for core, newness and special programs):
  • In Store Retail Placements + Programs
  • Online Retail Placements
  • Sampling
  • Sephora Social
  • Sephora Influencers and Influencer / Brand Programs
  • Internal Sephora Programs + Events
  • Sephora “HQ” marketing meetings, in the kitchen (ITK) and market week meetings
  • Sephora “SephorIA” Influencer Events
  • Sephora BI sale 360 Blitz Plan
  • Develop and expand retail relationships at all levels
  • Help ideate and unlock PC participation in larger Sephora brand initiatives
  • Own/Manage North America Retail Marketing Budget
  • Manage and Inspire Direct Reports and international retail marketers in regions to help build world class, disruptive retail marketing team
  • Partner with the Chief Retail Officer to help set (and execute on) the three-year strategy for retail marketing - that will accelerate brand recognition and revenue.
  • Partner, collaborate and ideate with internal cross-functional leads (global/local) to establish ground-breaking GTM retail strategies and ways to win at retail.
  •  Create and communicate clear retail GTM plans to optimize results and ensure effective execution as well as track, hindsight, and report on retail marketing ROI, results and related analytics – including share outs of Sephora consumer and retail marketing insights and data
  • Input on and help ideate/advocate for (but don’t own) Sephora Global Edu and related programs (i.e. SMC conference), and Visual Merchandising (VM).
  • Be an active thought partner and contributor to help maintain and ensure the positive global / local / Seattle culture of kindness at Paula’s Choice - leading with big ideas and a big heart, and always driving innovation.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years leading retail marketing of a global Top 20 beauty brand at / with Sephora (ideally, exclusively at Sephora) with demonstrated high-performance results, firsts and game changing ideas (a case study will be required)
  • Proven track record of creating and delivering retail marketing firsts, market disruption, and insights that helped changed the trajectory of a beauty business and/or product in NA and abroad
  • Deep expertise understanding the Sephora business (on global scale), defining an ownable recipe for success and expertise in Sephora consumers, with proven ability to unlock new opportunities and support
  • Excel at developing, expanding and utilizing Sephora / retailer relationships management – you are a known trusted advisor and partner (even if within different categories) and excel at relationships (asking the right questions, bringing new ideas to the table, always on retail partnership ideas, gifting, etc.)
  • Ability to help set a 3-year strategic retail marketing roadmap (spend, activations, ranking) and translate into wins for retail at North America and prior history creating intl. directives
  • Strategic mindset - strong creative skills balanced by a result driven, hands-on and detail-oriented approach for flawless execution
  • Demonstrated team player who has the delivered net new ideas with finessed negotiating skills to positively affect critical decisions across the retailer - as well as PC brand
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills (verbal and written) and known ideator / operator
  • Strong business acumen - including sharing out / setting up timely budget reconciliation, postmortems, insights, pivots – defining what worked, what didn’t, and how to move forward

The Details:

  • Location: Seattle or San Francisco-area based.
  • Hours: Typical PST Business Hours, with some INTL hours, and some flexibility
  • Physical requirements: Ability to handle both sitting and screen time for long periods of time
  • Travel requirements: Up to 30%. Monthly or quarterly visits to Seattle or San Francisco (depending upon home location) as well as travel to Toronto, Canada for key Sephora meetings – potentially 1x annual international meeting

Approximate Salary Range Based on Experience and Location:

$155,000 - $200,000 USD/annually

We evaluate external and internal equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.

For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. The exact base salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, geographic location, and budget. This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan.
