Overview: The BSA Investigator is responsible for executing on all assigned aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance functions performed by the BSA Department and implemented throughout Municipal Credit Union (MCU).

 

Responsibilities:

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

 

  • Executes duties with respect to MCU’s BSA/AML program and OFAC program so that they operate in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Investigates alerts generated from MCU’s suspicious activity monitoring solution to determine if the activity is suspicious and needs to be escalated for next level review
  • Investigates alerts generated from MCU department referrals, manual review of activity reports, and subpoena reviews to identify potentially suspicious activity that needs to be escalated for next level review
  • Collaborates with MCU personnel regarding interactions with members to aid in investigations
  • Ensures appropriate documentation is maintained and available for internal/external audits and legal requests for all work performed by staff
  • Supports BSA Operations Specialist with conducting reviews of potential OFAC alerts to determine legitimacy of the alert
  • Supports BSA Operations Specialist in ensuring timely and accurate identification, completion and filing of CTRs in accordance with FinCEN instructions and department standards
  • Supports BSA Operations Specialist in ensuring timely and accurate review and escalation of 314(a) potential/actual matches
  • Completes annual BSA/AML/OFAC training requirements and keeps current with Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing trends
  • Perform other related duties as requested and special projects as assigned

 

Requirements:

 

  • Highly ethical
  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Business, or Accounting, related field or work experience required
  • Minimum of three years related experience in a financial institution or in an investigatory/law enforcement position
  • Familiarity with the BSA, USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC and related regulations
  • CAMS and CFE certifications a plus        
  • Well-organized and detail oriented        
  • Good analytical skills  
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to conduct thorough research  
  • Ability to interpret and understand laws and regulations  
  • Ability to self – manage and self – direct
  • Resourcefulness and great time management skills         
  • Desire to drive and invest in the achievement of extraordinary results
  • Financial or Banking Compliance knowledge  
  • Ability to perform in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Technologically proficient
  • Proficiency in Verafin Monitoring/Case Management (preferred)
