The General, a subsidiary of Sentry Insurance, is looking for a Med PIP Claims Desk Adjuster to join our team! Investigates and maintains Med PIP claims. Secures information including obtaining recorded statements, reviewing photos and additional evidence, reviews coverages, medically manages the files, and settles claims. This role must be located in New York.
Based on experience and qualifications, the pay range for this position is $55,000-$90,000 annually.
What You'll Do
As a Med PIP Claims Desk Adjuster, you will:
- Investigates origin and cause of claims by contacting the appropriate parties including insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, experts, special investigation unit, other adjusters and adverse carriers.
- Identifies complex issues and seeks assistance as needed. Handles claims on a good faith basis.
- Investigates, evaluates, and resolves coverage questions in compliance with applicable state laws.
- Handles first party medical benefit claims, including fatalities and wage loss claims. Evaluates and makes decisions regarding coverage.
- Conducts investigations, sets and maintains adequate reserves, and medically manages the files including scheduling IMEs and Peer Reviews.
- Responds to customer inquiries, makes appropriate decisions and closes file as needed.
- Interprets and determines policies, leases, by-laws, declarations, articles and contract coverages and applies to all parties for assigned losses.
- Proactively provides all parties with claim process and status as appropriate; answers questions or redirects to other areas.
- May be required to complete other assignments, job duties, or participate in projects based upon skills, achievements, or experience.
What it Takes
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
- Demonstrated experience handling 1st party claims.
- Demonstrated experience handling moderately complex claims, or other equivalent experience.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of policies and endorsements related to casualty coverages, or other equivalent knowledge.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of each phase of the claim handling process, or other equivalent knowledge.
- Current state specific property casualty adjuster’s claims licensing required.
- Two or more years New York PIP handling experience required.
- Mitchell Decision Point software experience preferred.
- SIU experience preferred.
- Experience handling non-standard auto claims preferred.
- Work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Travel Requirements up to 10%.
