Job description

Title: Specialist, Communications                                              

Department: Communications                   

Reports To: Director, Communications   

FLSA Status: Exempt

Level: Staff

Location: Remote or Fairfax, VA

Alt Work Eligibility: CWW-Y, Remote-Y                                                 


Starting base salary range is $53,000-63,000. Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.   Full benefits are available and the position is also eligible for the Staff level annual bonus program. 

 

Summary of Position:                                                    

The Specialist, Communications will support the association’s media relations and social media. The individual will help execute AVIXA’s communications strategy through working with media partners worldwide, placing stories in support of AVIXA programs, and facilitating media requests for interviews, information, and more. This role will provide support for AVIXA’s social media presence, including crafting messaging, helping develop digital media assets, and publishing content. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:          

  • Provide overall support for AVIXA’s social media presence (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X). Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Social Media on messaging and creative assets. 
  • Coordinate deliverables for InfoComm media partner program. Collaborate with Marketing and Exposition teams to fulfill trade agreements including print and digital ads, social media messaging, and press interview coordination.
  • Write and distribute press releases about AVIXA programs.
  • Coordinate press coverage of AVIXA programs.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with pro AV media and forge new relationships with media covering related industries. 
  • Share press coverage, press releases, and additional content on AVIXA Xchange digital community
  • Manage online press room on avixa.org.


 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of two years of media relations, social media, or related experience
  • Excellent writing/editing skills
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Experience with social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X
  • Experience developing digital media assets 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel for work up to 10% of the year

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with social media management (e.g. Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Social Studio)
  • Experience with media monitoring platforms (e.g. Cision, Meltwater)
  • Experience working in the tech industry or member associations 
  • Knowledge of/experience with web content management/email platforms
  • Ability to travel internationally, as necessary
