Job Purpose:
This individual will sit on the MEA QSC Leadership Team and as such will need to bring enterprise thinking to discussions. He/She will also be the single point of contact for Engineering and EHS for the MEA Supply Chain.
The Engineering & EHS Lead’s accountabilities include EHS, capital planning & governance, maintenance standards & performance, equipment reliability & performance, environmental sustainability for water & greenhouse gases, Engineering Compliance & adherence to related Engineering standards & ways of working. In addition, the role requires perspectives from other industries and identify new engineering solutions that will drive efficiency and EHS improvements. Further, the colleague needs to think about how new innovation / technologies will be appropriately produced within the Network. The colleague also needs to be a major contributor to network site decisions and the assessment of what the network of the future should be to best support the business.
A key aspect of this role is development of engineering and EHS competence at sites while also driving plant, equipment & engineering service improvements. Team staffing & competency building are core components of the job which covers 3 manufacturing sites in South Africa, Pakistan and Kenya. When called upon the colleague will be required to provide guidance on major engineering solutions being deployed within the CMO network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be an active member of the MEA Leadership team, reporting into the QSC BU Lead for MEA and will be expected to bring enterprise thinking to the BU leadership team. You will also be the single point of contact for Engineering for MEA.
- Oversee and govern the MEA Capital plan (Annual base spend Capital budget = £10-£15m), providing an investment proposal process review with business justification. Support the sites to develop their 3-5 year Facility Investment Plans and ensure the projects are delivered safely, with the required technical specification, capacity, schedule & cost. Opportunities to deploy low cost capital equipment should be fully explored. Annual base spend capital budget = £10-15m.
- Ensure that Engineering & EHS objectives are in place aligned with the MEA BU plan and priorities and drive the CH QSC Engineering/EHS programmes in the region.
- Provide support to sites for Process Improvement and OEE initiatives with guidance and support to create a strong Maintenance Reliability culture, to improve equipment performance and reduce breakdowns contributing to OEE losses and downtime. Equipment losses should be <5%.
- Provide guidance & support to sites for compliance processes – Global Engineering, EHS & Quality standards & processes, ensuring compliance meets the requirement of all local, national and Haleon regulations.
- Ensure organisational capability & processes are in place to ensure Engineering areas of EHS Duty Holding for high severity risks are effectively deployed through the site organisation.
- Champion the product contamination reduction program for the MEA BU, building site expertise & reducing the cost & frequency of contamination events.
- Ensure comprehensive energy management, carbon impact & utility cost reduction plans are developed & implemented with specific energy consumption target reductions agreed with the SC & Site leads & are aligned with CH QSC’s overall objectives in this area.
- Lead the property risk programme in the region.
- Manage MEA EHS Lead and support Engineering & EHS audits. Support incident investigations.
- Be present at & provide hands on support to sites frequently.
- Connects the BUs with Global subject matter expertise as needed.
Skills and Competencies:
- Engineering Degree – Mechanical, Electrical & Chemical preferred
- MBA Degree will be a plus
- 15 years of relevant experience with a strong technical backbone, preferably in pharmaceutical or FMCG industry
- Experience working in a cross functional environment
- Experience of asset and capital management in a manufacturing environment
- High level of agility, critical and innovative thinking and problem-solving
- People management experience will be a plus
- Ability to coach and mentor teams
- Negotiating and influencing skills
- Ability to engage with senior leadership, key sponsors and stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders and external partners and government/regulatory bodies.
