Note:
This is a full-time, HYBRID position in Philadelphia, PA. This is NOT a fully remote position.

 

Group Profile:

 

The Enterprise Platform Services and Data Management Team oversees the software and processes that facilitate the connection and collaboration of the organization’s more than 49,000 members at the forefront of cancer research.

 

We manage the enterprise Customer Relationship Management (eCRM) solution along with its related systems and customizations that support our Membership, Event Registration, and other business processes. In addition, we are standing up the organization’s Master Data Management (MDM) solution, as well as its enterprise Data Warehouse (DW).

 

Our group is also responsible for the AACR IT Help Desk and is in the process of building out a more robust customer service offering, for internal and external constituents. 

 

Job Summary:

 

A Data Analyst is primarily responsible for empowering users with data across the institution, providing a unique blend of business, technical, and analytical expertise. The team combines business knowledge with data and technology to empower decision-makers and believes that user-friendly, self-service, embedded analytics products can improve stakeholder experience, optimize processes, and provide valuable information to decision makers.

 

Day-to-day tasks include conducting requirements analysis meetings, developing requirement specifications, process flow diagrams, wireframes, and other functional artifacts. This role is also responsible for developing complex data modelling and reporting, should proactively seek out areas where business processes can be automated or improved using technology and assists with other duties as assigned.

This role is also responsible for developing complex data modelling and reporting, should proactively seek out areas where business processes can be automated or improved using technology and assists with other duties as assigned.

 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1. Requirements Gathering
a) Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements sessions, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis
b) Guides business units and other stakeholders on large scope projects: gathering requirements, developing metrics, retrieving data, and ensuring validity of results
c) Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
d) Understand, document, and propose value-added solutions to current business processes
e) Define and develop KPIs and other meaningful metrics to help guide business decisions


2. Stakeholder Liaison
f) Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to capture requirements and business rules
g) Serve as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the development team through which requirements flow
h) Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements
i) Coordinate and conduct user acceptance testing for new system implementations and software patch releases

 

3. Report Creation
a) Propose and create innovative and appropriate data solutions (dashboards, reports, business intelligence tools, etc) for the measurement of processes and outcomes
b) Work closely with Platform Manager and other team members to clearly articulate reporting needs and make recommendations for optimal report layout/format
c) Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements
d) Develop “end-to-end” technical architecture to include data input solutions, data governance process, and the analysis-presentation of complex data
e) Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs
f) Create a reporting environment for users at all levels of the organization

 

4. Documentation
a) Create requirements specifications according to defined standards, using natural language
b) Assist in development of change management process to minimize downstream impacts to reporting through all levels of the MDM solution
c) Produce detailed universally understood procedures for permanent records and for use in training
d) Track and fully document changes for functional and business specifications
e) Obtain stakeholder sign-off for documented deliverables
f) Develop and maintain up-to-date technical, functional, and process documentation


5. Maintenance and Improvement
a) Conduct assigned project activities in alignment with project timelines and budget
b) Stand up and maintain a reporting infrastructure, including troubleshooting problems as they arise and communicating with external partners when needed
c) Work with internal stakeholders to support and implement solutions according to their requirements
d) Continually interact with team members on ways to improve new and existing reporting, including usability and visual appeal
e) Develop quality assurance test plans and direct quality assurance testing
f) Identify issues and risks, ensuring that they are appropriately raised and actioned
g) Participate in implementation and provide post-implementation support of projects

Qualifications:

Job Qualifications:

 

  1. At least two years recent work experience in analytics/business intelligence is required
  2. Experience writing at least rudimentary SQL queries is required
  3. Data Science experience developing forecasts, predictive models, and a strong understanding of statistics preferred
  4. Extensive experience in data visualization tools (Qlik, Tableau, Power BI, etc)
  5. Experience in at least one computer programming language or analytical programming language (R, Python, SAS, etc) preferred
  6. Knowledge of relational database structures
  7. Experience with Salesforce Platform is preferred
  8. Knowledge/Experience with Scrum/Agile methodologies is preferred

 

Education Requirements:

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. (Note this is a preference and not a requirement. Candidates with demonstrated experience in the role who may not meet this preference are encouraged to apply.)
