The Position:

The Compliance Specialist helps ensure the Company is performing in accordance with policies and procedures established by the Company’s management team and its Compliance Officer to comply with laws, regulations and applicable industry standards. The Compliance Specialist’s duties may involve a wide range of tasks, including audits, review of documentation, tracking of compliance tasks, research regarding best practices, and communication and education of employees regarding established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor compliance hotline and work with Compliance Officer to track response/completion of hotline matters.
  • Design and implement tracking/communication process to assure employee completion of mandatory compliance trainings or acknowledgments of policies (using Human Resource Information System technology as a resource). 
  • Review HIPAA medical record requests (with training from Compliance Officer)
  • Prepare HIPAA breach notification letters to patients (with training from Compliance Officer)
  • Monitor vendor exclusion screening report and coordinate with Compliance Officer to address issues and track resolution.
  • Perform remote audits of Company documentation using standards/guidelines established by Compliance Officer and Company policy.
  • Assist Compliance Officer to deliver reports and feedback to Company management teams to develop corrective action plans, and track completion of corrective action.  
  • Serve as resource to Company employees regarding permitted activity and/or required procedures under well-established Company compliance policies in select areas.  
  • Other tasks requested and supervised by the Compliance Officer to help implement Compliance program and policies and procedures, including researching best practices available in other company policies or consulting materials available on the internet or through training courses.

Monday-Friday typical office hours

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five or more years’ experience working for health care company or practice
  • Experience with audit practices and techniques
  • Familiarity with health care laws preferred such as HIPAA privacy laws and antikickback and self-referral laws.
  • Proficiency with Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, Internet Explorer
