As a Manager, Software Engineering (PHP), you’ll lead a team of engineers through challenging development projects. Come join a highly collaborative team of skilled engineers with a passion for quality. 

This position is hybrid out of our Toronto office. 

What You'll Do:

  • Lead a software engineering team in building, enhancing and supporting mission-critical business application products
  • Proactively lead engineering teams in re-architecting legacy applications into a highly scalable/transaction heavy API based applications using SOA principles and design patterns
  • Propose, evaluate and implement state-of-the art innovative technologies that can increase productivity and efficiency
  • Manage and grow geographically distributed software engineering team by providing regular mentorship, career coaching, and performance feedback
  • Actively seek to improve the engineering delivery pipeline reducing cycle time and increasing quality and security posture.
  • Collaborate with Product, QA, App Support and DevOps teams on improving full software lifecycle such as grooming, defect triage and 3rd level production support
  • Work with large datasets using relational and no-sql (document, graph) databases
  • Review and enforce good coding practices
  • Convert complex business rules and workflows from User Story requirements into performance and maintenance optimized logic

Minimum Technical Qualifications:

  • 5 -10 years of professional experience developing web-based applications in PHP frameworks (Symphony preferred)
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in managing a team of 5+ engineers
  • Sound knowledge and experience with Object Oriented principles, REST APIs, Web Applications
  • Knowledge and experience of using design patterns and algorithm analysis
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience using relational / no-sql databases (SQL Server/CosmosDB preferred)
  • Experience with caching, session management, message queues, full-text search, web sockets technologies (Redis, Couchbase, RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch, socket.io preferred)
  • Computer Science degree preferred

Preferred Technical Qualifications:

  • Experience designing fault tolerant architecture on cloud deployments
  • Experienced in leveraging issue tracking systems and wikis for documentation (Jira/Confluence)
  • Comfortable on CentOS Linux, command line, SSH, SFTP, SCP
  • Exposure to Azure/AWS/GCP PaaS
  • Crafting architecture diagrams in Visio or LucidChart
