IREX: Learn to Discern India (L2D-II) - Empowering Media Savvy Youth 

Position: Marathi Copy Editor 

Location: Mumbai, India

About Learn to Discern India II 

The Learn to Discern India (L2D-India II) – Empowering Media Savvy Youth project aims to support healthier, more resilient information engagement among diverse Indian communities. This initiative enhances digital media literacy skills among Indian youth, including graduates of the Learn to Discern India Academy (L2D-IA) and university students, as well as media creators and social media influencers. The project fosters critical thinking and leverages the influence of master trainers to promote impactful awareness campaigns, ultimately empowering informed, resilient information consumers. 

Position Overview 

IREX seeks a Marathi Copy Editor to review and refine the Trainer Handbook for Marathi-speaking audiences in Mumbai. The selected candidate will ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and consistency in the materials. This is a remote position. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review and edit the Marathi version of the Trainer Handbook for accuracy, coherence, and cultural relevance. 

  • Maintain consistency in terminology and style in line with L2D-II's training materials. 

  • Collaborate with the project team to incorporate feedback and revisions. 

  • Ensure the final document is of high professional quality, suitable for training facilitators and youth trainers. 

  • Complete the review and finalization within the agreed timeframe. 

Qualifications 

  • Expertise in Marathi copy editing. 

  • Proven experience in translating/editing documents from English to Marathi, preferably in education, training, or media literacy. 

  • Strong command of both Marathi and English with excellent writing, grammar, and proofreading skills. 

  • Experience with educational/training content is preferred. 

  • Ability to maintain cultural and contextual relevance in the materials. 

  • Understanding of regional variations in Marathi language usage. 

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work collaboratively with the project team.

  • Two samples of previous translation/editing work (English to Marathi). 

  • Proposed fee per word/page for translation and editing services. 

Evaluation Criteria 

The selection will be based on the following weighted criteria: 

  • Translation & Editing Experience (45%) 

  • Familiarity with Educational/Training Materials (25%) 

  • Attention to Detail & Cultural Sensitivity (20%) 

  • Timely Delivery & Collaboration (10%) 

L2D India - Empowering Media Savvy Youth is funded by the U.S. Embassy in India. 

IREX may, at its discretion, ask for additional information. Issuing this call does not commit IREX to select any candidate. IREX reserves the right, based on the availability of funding and consultant performance, to extend or modify contractual agreements with the selected translator without re-publicizing the opportunity.
