Job description

Blackstone Talent Group, an award-winning technology consulting and talent agency is seeking a Director of Enterprise Applications – Discrete Mfg to join our Client's team.

Our client is seeking an experienced and seasoned IT Director with expertise in managing a portfolio of IT systems that support a discrete manufacturing business. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, ERP systems, and the ability to develop roadmaps for the various applications within the IT portfolio to help drive ongoing improvements and efficiencies within our organization.

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Director of Enterprise Applications with extensive knowledge in discrete manufacturing for complex products. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, ERP systems, and business analysis techniques to drive improvements and efficiencies within our organization. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional executive teams to develop relationships, serve the various stakeholder's IT needs and manage expectations throughout the IT portfolio release journey. This position reports into the CIO, and requires roughly 50 stakeholders across the various business units and departments of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Improve business processes and strategies by directing the development, implementation and maintenance of business applications. Lead the development in various technology choices based on business needs and direction. Make recommendations for buy versus build decisions where required.
  • Application Architecture: Oversee the architectural direction of the IT application portfolio. Integrate software packages or custom application solutions into the business value chain where required. Manage a variety of technology choices including ERP, CRM, WMS, TMS, data warehouse and custom solutions. Evaluate industry trends for technology advances and makes recommendations to upgrade the application platform.
  • Application Strategy/Design: Ensure that the implementation of systems and applications meets the architectural specifications as well as the user requirements. Maintain best practices and standard software development lifecycle processes. Ensure that the development team adheres to development standards.
  • Portfolio & Budget Management: Manage the project portfolio priorities of the application development teams. Allocate resources across projects as needed to ensure each project meets agreed upon deadlines. Develop cost estimates and timelines for delivering software solutions to business, and monitor progress to minimize exceptions.
  • Resource Management: Responsible for hiring and managing developers, designers and application specialists. Conduct regular reviews and ensures team maintains technical certifications.

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in IT leadership role working on complex enterprise IT systems.
  • Strong understanding of discrete manufacturing processes and how technology supports it.
  • Experience managing IT portfolio along with 10+ person IT teams and ecosystem of IT vendors to deliver on client project needs.
  • Experience with managing IT portfolio budgets, from both planning and budgeted monitoring/management.
  • Implementation experience with ERP systems, for at least part of their professional ERP career.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft tools, including MS project, Word, PPT, Teams.
  • Familiarity with JIRA.

Remote/Travel

  • 40-50% travel to both client HQ (Bronx, NY) and other client sites throughout US and to Canada (e.g., NY, Toronto, CA, etc.).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 10-12+ years of project leadership/management experience; experience managing a software development life cycle.
  • 6-8+ years of technology sr. leadership.
  • 5+ years of application architecture, integration and conversion experience on multiple platforms.
  • 3+ years of ERP implementation experience.
  • 2+ years of CRM implementation experience.
  • 1+ years of custom applciation development experience.
