Role Description
We are looking for a highly detail-oriented individual to join our Accounting team as a Staff Accountant. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-volume environment and possesses exceptional time management and organizational skills. In this role, you will manage the full accounts payable (AP) process, assist in the month-end close process, and perform necessary journal entries and reconciliations. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager and is a full-time, nonexempt role.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of accounts payable, including bill processing, vendor inquiries, and AP software management.
- Review and verify the accuracy of bills, ensuring proper coding and obtaining necessary approvals.
- Collect and maintain tax forms and payment details for new vendor setup.
- Provide payment remittance information to vendors.
- Record and apply credit memos to future bills.
- Oversee the AP inbox, responding to inquiries from vendors and internal stakeholders promptly.
- Follow up weekly with approvers to resolve outstanding bills.
- Conduct quarterly reviews of vendor records to ensure accuracy.
- Support month-end close activities, including account and bank reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
- Provide support for the year-end audit process by gathering documentation as needed.
- Assist with the preparation and filing of year-end 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- Understanding of accrual-based accounting
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a high-volume environment is key for success in this role

Benefits
- The ideal candidate will receive a competitive compensation package, with a salary range of $60,000 to $70,000
- This role includes eligibility for an annual bonus, determined by individual and company performance, with the total award calculated at the end of the fiscal year.

- Simple Mills operates with a hybrid-model: a balance of in-person and virtual work. Hybrid employees will work from our Chicago, IL OR Mill Valley, CA office at least once per week.
