Job description

Inatai Foundation is a growing 501(c)(4) philanthropic organization committed to working with communities to shift the balance of power to ensure racial justice and equity across Washington and beyond. We are hiring an Accountant to join our expanding team.

Position Summary 

The Accountant – Accounts Payable (AP) ensures timely and accurate payments to vendors, grantees, employees, and other stakeholders of the foundation. They support foundation employees in processing payments, coding expenditures, and submitting necessary documentation for expense reporting. Be a champion of the 50 Year Vision. Additionally, the Accountant – AP assists in the development and improvement of finance processes to ensure that those processes are being carried out in alignment with the Foundation’s goal of best-in-class racial justice in finance. The Accountant – AP must demonstrate excellent customer service to our internal and external stakeholders. 

The Accountant – AP independently performs day-to-day accounts payable functions, ensuring consistency with the Foundation’s policies, protocols, and workflows. They are a resource to the Inatai team for questions regarding expenditure coding, payment processes and navigating finance systems such as Expensify and Sage Intacct. 

This is a full-time, exempt position. Inatai is proud to be a statewide organization and we know there are talented leaders everywhere in our state. As we grow and learn, we know that we are better partners to communities and more strategic grantmakers when we have team members rooted in place and bringing their lived and learned experiences to our work. We are prioritizing the following geographies to ensure we are fully living up to our commitments to geographic equity.  

  • The Olympic Peninsula, with special attention to Jefferson, Clallam, and Grays Harbor counties 
  • North Central Washington, with special attention to Douglas, Chelan, Okanogan, and Kittitas counties 
  • North Eastern Washington, with special attention to Pend Oreille, Stevens, Ferry and Lincoln counties 

In addition to these regions, we would like to give priority to candidates based in Adams, Asotin, Cowlitz, Lewis, Mason, Skagit, Skamania, and Whitman counties.  

We currently have offices in Seattle and Pasco. Team members connected to an office are expected to work in the office. Team members may be permitted – with supervisor approval – to work remotely up to two days per week. Periodic early morning, evening, and weekend hours will be required, and statewide and regional travel should be expected. 

Primary Responsibilities

Manage AP processing under the supervision of the Accounting Manager 

  • Design and improve upon Accounts Payable processes to ensure they center racial justice and equity. 
  • Monitor the accounting@ inbox to answer vendor and Inatai team-member questions and route AP items to the correct Inatai team-member for approval. 
  • Enter AP invoices into Sage Intacct, including determining accurate coding, sufficient documentation and ensuring sufficient approvals have been obtained. 
  • Monitor Expensify for employee reimbursements, review for accurate coding and enter into Sage Intacct. 
  • Import grant payments into Sage Intacct. 
  • Support the review and reconciliation of P-cards, as needed.  

Vendor Maintenance 

  • Monitor the ach@ inbox for incoming ACH documents and update vendor records in Sage Intacct accordingly. 
  • Record incoming Contracts into Sage and monitor payments against contracts for accurate reporting. 
  • Review vendor status for missing W9s, ACH documents, etc.  

Conduct on-going trainings for Inatai team-members and providing general cross-departmental support. 

  • Expensify: general coding, P-Card, and expense reimbursement submissions 
  • Sage Intacct: Reviewing/Approving AP transactions, general navigation 

Month-End and Year-End closing 

  • Reconcile Accounts Payable Ledger 
  • Prepare annual forms 1099 

Other duties  

  • Assume other responsibilities and explore new opportunities that arise with the evolving needs and aspirations of the Foundation 
  • Contribute one’s own ideas, perspectives, and lived experiences to the emerging culture of the Foundation 

Requirements

Work experience. 

  • 5 years relevant experience or equivalent accounting coursework 

Specialized knowledge or technical skills needed. 

  • Thorough understanding of accounting basics 
  • Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) 

Other skills (i.e., level of judgement required, ability to direct, ability to work independently, ability to manage multiple priorities, etc.) 

  • Attention to detail. 
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills combined with the ability to listen deeply and authentically. 
  • Ability to be adaptive and responsive to evolving priorities. 
  • Ability to be self-directed, take ownership, and see projects to completion in a timely manner. 
  • Humility and curiosity, and an understanding of how these qualities are connected to success in this role.

Benefits

Salary ranges are set according to an explicit compensation policy, and relevant data are reviewed when setting ranges for each position. The salary range for this position is $72,000 to $87,000. A compensation enhancement is provided to employees with indigenous or advanced language proficiency in more than one language that they utilize to advance the Foundation’s work across Washington.  

We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes fully paid medical/dental/vision coverage for employees and dependent children (and partial coverage for partners and spouses), a 10% retirement contribution, generous time off (29 days of flexible paid time off, eight paid holidays, and a year-end office closure from December 25 to January 1), paid family and medical leave (12 to 18 weeks), a transit pass (where available), and support for ongoing professional development.
