Description

Summary: Responsible for completing all assigned duties related to all aspects of building housekeeping (inside and out) of the building(s) to which he/she is assigned.

Essential Employees: All Block Institute Employees have been deemed Essential Employees by New York State. As such, that means that if there are requirements for Essential Employees to show up to work during announced emergencies or times of crisis, all Block employees are among those mandated to do so. (Subject to any other Executive Order to the contrary.)

The scope of an Essential Employees’ tasks during an emergency situation will vary from situation to situation, may include, but not be limited to: physically showing up to a designated work site as instructed, even if other businesses are closed; completion of all work where possible online, including documentation of services, evaluations, billing, etc.; attendance at Microsoft Team Meetings (or other online communication platforms) as invited; and completion of any assignments or training modules as instructed, and working remotely where possible.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Following a schedule, will sweep, mop, and wax assigned: classrooms, group rooms, hallways, offices, bathrooms, cafeteria, lounge, multipurpose rooms, vacuum all carpeted areas, etc.

Clean on a regular basis all doors, door handles, railings, fixtures, garbage cans (wash out weekly), interior/exterior windows, vents, pictures, drinking fountains.

Clean all bathrooms: wash toilets/urinals, sinks, stall walls and doors, tiles (behind toilets, on floor around toilets), wipe down all dispensers and holders.

Maintain dumpsters and empty all garbage cans and waste baskets in all rooms/areas, respecting recycling laws.

Locker room: Wipe down and disinfect shower area and lockers.

Ensure all rooms are stocked with essentials, i.e. paper towels, toilet paper, soap, deodorizers, garbage bags, etc.

Maintain the outside perimeters of the building through sweeping, raking, loose garbage pick-up, shoveling sidewalks and pathways in winter, etc.

Report any safety issues to your supervisor (cordon off the area if necessary, until repair is completed).

Maintain dry floors inside building (remember to place caution signs where floors are wet)

Basic/light repair work as directed and supervised by the maintenance supervisor.

Rearrange or relocate furniture as needed to accommodate various needs or activities

Attend in-service training and attend scheduled meetings with the Facilities Supervisor and/or Manager.

Interact appropriately and follow all regulatory items concerning the individuals we serve.

Must work to keep the environment of the individuals we serve clean and attractive.

Mandatory attendance at required in service training, along with ability to absorb and demonstrate compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements is required for this position.

Attendance/Punctuality: is consistently at work and on time. Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent. Arrives at meetings and appointments on time.

Proficiency in English is required to perform essential job functions, including preparing written reports, understanding safety instructions, and communicating with clients or team members.
