About traceless materials
We are a circular bioeconomy startup, and we offer a novel biomaterial solution to tackle plastic pollution: traceless® materials! Being based on plant residues of the agricultural industry, our materials are fully biobased, plastic-free and home compostable. Our patent-pending technology to produce them is scalable, environmentally friendly and efficient: A science-based life-cycle assessment shows that compared to conventional plastics traceless® saves 91% carbon emissions and 89% fossil energy demand in production and disposal, all while preserving agricultural land and water resources, and completely avoiding the use of hazardous chemicals or additives. Founded in 2020 by Anne Lamp and Johanna Baare in Hamburg, Germany, our growing team unites 35 passionate experts from many disciplines and twelve nationalities - all driven by our common vision: To jointly create a future free of pollution and waste! With the aim to replace plastics in large quantities soon, we are working on the scale-up of our production capacities from pilot to industrial scale as quickly as possible. In parallel, we are working on first pilot products made from traceless® materials with brand owners and converting partners, and launched a first market pilot in 2022. On our journey, we are proud to be funded among others by the European Innovation Council and the German Federal Ministry for Environment (BMUV), and was awarded among others with the German Entrepreneur Award and German Sustainability Award (NEA). Job description

Your mission
We are tackling global plastic pollution - and you will be a part of the solution!  
 
With our innovative technology, we turn plant leftovers of the agricultural industry into a novel sustainable biomaterial - biobased, plastic-free, compostable and with significantly less emissions! A material that leaves no harmful traces. With this, we want to replace as many plastics as possible to maximize our impact, and this is where you come in. 
 
As the Strategy Responsible for Impact, Sustainability and ESG, you will be instrumental in continuing to shape our approach to these critical issues that are at the core of traceless DNA. Your expertise will help us to optimize our measurable environmental, social, and economic value while aligning with global best practices and communicating to all stakeholders. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive systemic change, lead sustainability processes, and inspire stakeholders both within and outside the company. In this position, you will fill the following roles:

  • Lead our Sustainability Vision: Refine our comprehensive sustainability strategy that influences company-wide initiatives.
  • Strategic Integration: Continue to embed sustainability and ESG principles into core business processes, ensuring alignment with emerging global standards.
  • Impact Intelligence: Provide data-driven insights and actionable recommendations to maximize our positive environmental and social impact.
  • ESG Compliance: Safeguard our adherence to regulatory frameworks, ensuring we meet certification standards and sustainability guidelines.
  • Impact Communication: Craft compelling narratives that communicate complex sustainability data to customers and stakeholders, enhancing our brand reputation.
  • Public Affairs (optional): If you have an affinity for it, we would love to hear how you could support our advocacy efforts through monitoring upcoming regulations and political strategies, advocating for beneficial regulatory and political frameworks and building strong stakeholder alliances

Your responsibilities are: 
Strategic Leadership: 
  • Continuously evolve our sustainability and ESG roadmap, integrating it into the company’s overall strategy and support our groups in its implementation.
  • Oversee our focus areas for impact (e.g., environmental footprint, social benchmarks) and set clear, measurable sustainability goals.
  • Stay ahead of global sustainability trends, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations (e.g., CSRD) and anticipating future regulatory shifts.
  • Provide strategic insights to inform decisions on technology, market direction, and ESG-related initiatives.
Sustainability Management: 
  • Lead life cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate product and operational impacts, enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • Establish and enforce sustainability governance across the company, including environmental guidelines and greenwashing safeguards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve our environmental performance, optimizing sustainability across all operations
ESG Reporting:
  • Manage the preparation of ESG reports for investors, ensuring compliance with frameworks like the GHG Protocol, EU Taxonomy and EU regulations.
  • Oversee data collection, reporting, and transparency efforts to maintain credibility with stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies that effectively convey sustainability progress both internally and externally.
 Team Leadership: 
  • Cultivate a sustainability-driven culture within the organization, empowering teams to incorporate environmental consciousness into their work.
  • Serve as a Cultural Ambassador, inspiring teams and aligning their efforts with the company’s sustainability goals.
  • Closely collaborate with our colleagues leading auditing processes, certification maintenance, and transparent ESG disclosures, reinforcing trust with stakeholders.
Your profile
  • Education: A degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in sustainability strategy or ESG reporting, or environmental impact assessment, with a proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Technical Knowledge: Expertise in life cycle assessments (LCA), ESG frameworks (e.g., CSRD, GHG Protocol), and regulatory compliance.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis capabilities to translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Leadership: Experience in fostering collaboration, and driving organizational alignment.
  • Communication: Ability to distill complex sustainability concepts into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and German

About us
traceless is a young company - with a big vision: a future free of pollution and waste! Our award-winning company was founded in Hamburg in 2020 by our female founding duo Anne and Johanna. By now we are a diverse team from different disciplines, ages and twelve nationalities, united by our common mission: to contribute to solving plastic pollution and build the regenerative industry of the future. To achieve this, we are working to bring our materials to market quickly and to build our first large-scale production facility in Hamburg-Harburg.
