VAT Manager – KPMG Internal Tax Team

Base Location: UK Wide, with occasional visits to Watford

Why Join KPMG as a VAT Manager

KPMG is looking to recruit a VAT manager in their in-house Tax team. This is a new role within the internal VAT team which is responsible for mitigating the VAT risk of KPMG's supplies to clients. As a result, the role is pivotal in achieving this goal. The manager will be responsible for providing the correct advice to the KPMG service lines and ensure our VAT reporting to HMRC and other overseas authorities are within the direction of the relevant VAT law.

The role will provide UK & International VAT compliance support to all service lines across the KPMG group of companies. In addition, the role will oversee the work of two junior members of staff in the Internal VAT team. This role is key for purposes of complying with tax obligations and maintaining a positive relationship with the UK & International Tax Authorities.

What will you be doing?

The role will be responsible for managing the submission of the quarterly VAT returns for KPMG registrations, supporting the business with respect to complex VAT queries that consider domestic and international legislation.

  • Managing the VAT helpline and supporting the senior manager in advising on VAT implications on changes in business reporting processes
  • Detailed review of c.14 VAT returns to HMRC
  • Manage the internal VAT mailbox which receives c.10,000 queries per year
  • Provide advice on the VAT liability of KPMG transactions
  • Ensure effective internal VAT compliance processes are applied across the Firm
  • Manage year end VAT partial exemption calculations
  • Take lead on projects and manage outputs accordingly and includes supporting the senior manager on various complex advisory projects
  • Coach junior team members, including signing off their work
  • Work with the wider partnership tax team on VAT related issues


What will you need to do it?

  • CTA or ACA Qualified
  • Intermediate VAT technical knowledge
  • Minimum of 4 years practical experience working with either partnership or corporate entities
  • Ability to conduct research into VAT technical matters.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks
  • Excellent organisational skills are required
  • Strong interpersonal skills in addition to strong oral and written communication skills
