A Brief Overview

The Executive Director, Marketing Underwriting Manage Accident & Health Program business, accountable for evaluating risk, setting terms, conditions, and guidelines, treaties, responsible for assigned clients and producing profit on the accounts managed. Ability to market and underwrite as well as assess risk for Employer Stop Loss, small group product as well as other A&H products. Develop and manages client relationships to ensure client’s needs are met while ensuring profitable underwriting decisions and maintaining RGA underwriting philosophy. Provides high level expertise and guidance to the leadership team, supports strategic initiatives and fosters a spirit of collaboration.

Develops product approach in conjunction with internal staff as well as provides direction to focus on underwriting and other services for that part product.

What You Will Do

  • Directs and leads all aspects of Healthcare Quota Share client relationships including evaluation of risk and underwriting with approval authority up to a given parameter. Analyze data, evaluate characteristics of reinsurance arrangements, apply relevant experience, appraise opportunities, collect, and analyze data and monitoring monthly results and emerging legal/statutory changes.
  • Effectively communicate, negotiate, and sell underwriting decisions. Ensure that RGA can effectively administer clients’ proposed reinsurance.
  • Provide oversite of a cross functional deal team including business development, marketing, underwriting, actuarial and other services. Manage communications with internal stakeholders and external parties to motivate smooth deal flow.
  • Lead cross functional teams and manages ongoing team/department special projects. Monitor existing and proposed federal and state health laws and state statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to division profitability by analyzing/assessing assigned client profitability through experience and expense analysis and attention to assigned account performance.
  • Conduct UW value added services for assigned and other accounts.
  • Expert representation at industry presence at meetings (SIIA)
  • Participate, as a subject matter expert, leader, or team member, in special projects, committees, meetings and client presentations, as required.
  • Facilitate and/or conduct audits and facultative underwriting, with approval authority on facultative cases.
  • Direct and manage underwriting tools, processes, and services. Manage facultative process and provide product expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related work experience
  • At least 8+ years of direct Employer Stop Loss underwriting.
  • May require up to 40% travel
  • Preferred At least 10+ years of group reinsurance underwriting or 8+ years of direct underwriting experience
  • Pricing, product, and statutory knowledge of comprehensive major medical products including Employer Stop Loss, Small Group, Group and Single Parent Captives, Level-funding arrangements, and other unique A&H product offerings.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received.
  • Highly advanced level of investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Expert ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives
  • Highly advanced level of people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility.
  • Advanced skills in customer relationship management and change management.
  • Highly advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions .
  • Highly advanced ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously.
  • Highly advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines.
  • Highly advanced persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers; conflict resolution, foster teamwork; broad knowledge of business practices, and ability to interpret insurance and contract documents.
  • Highly advanced ability to learn and apply multiple clients underwriting guidelines and underrating systems quickly and accurately during an onsite client audit.
  • Highly advanced ability to comprehend, analyze and apply vast amounts of medical and financial information quickly to make sound financial underwriting and risk assessments.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of industry practices, trends, and applications and the ability to communicate this knowledge to clients and fulfill their needs.
  • Advanced PC skills, Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Ability to work online, either at home or remote

Compensation Range

$123,500.00 - $184,050.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
