ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an accredited, 4-year undergraduate degree program at a junior or senior standing, or pursuing an advanced degree. Due to timeliness and our necessary compliance with obtaining government approved authorizations, consideration is limited to those students currently eligible to work in the United States per 10 CFR Part 810 rules, and we are unable to consider students authorized to work on F-1 or M-1 Visas.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: This internship opportunity will be in the Probabilistic Risk Assessment group. Year-round, part-time availability is preferred, with an option to work in NuScale’s Corvallis, Oregon office. Our teams will work with interns on flexible work schedules so school can remain a priority, with the ability to ramp up to 40 hours/week during breaks. The successful candidate will be an entry level engineer working in close collaboration with NuScale engineers to complete a range of general engineering efforts. These efforts may include preparation of engineering deliverables supporting probabilistic risk assessment and/or system thermal hydraulic analyses. This position requires self-motivated junior or senior students (or graduate level students) skilled at working and learning through remote platforms (e.g., video, phone, email).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assist engineers in performing engineering studies, reports, drawings, calculations, and design documents in areas including probabilistic risk assessment and/or system thermal hydraulic analyses.
  2. Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, processes, and criteria in preparation of engineering deliverables.
  3. Conduct analysis to support development of probabilistic risk assessment methodologies and software.
  4. Assist with the development of licensing reports as required for different regulatory processes.
  5. Use open, honest communications when managing work activities, ensuring clarity of task assigned and resulting high quality workmanship and an attention to detail.
  6. Contribute to detailed instructions in the area of probabilistic risk assessment and/or system thermal hydraulic analyses as lessons are learned and best practices are gained.
  7. Effectively communicate with other technical and non-technical disciplines.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate engineering, or related degree program.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years advanced experience using MS Word, Excel, Adobe PDF. Ability to understand engineering concepts, principles, theories. Strong technical writing skills. Good communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases.
  • Preferred skills and/or experience include:
    • Technical writing and attention to detail
    • Critical reasoning and self-motivation to work hard and perform on the job
    • Time management, planning, organization
    • Positive attitude and enthusiasm about connecting with others to advance the NuScale technology
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
