Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Alberta Operations Performance is responsible for oversight and management of the operational performance with specific focus on end to end revenue management and the impacts on the financial performance of Canada Consumer.  This Senior Manager will lead the investigation, research, analysis and resolution of issues related to end to end revenue management to support business decisions related to the key aspects of the Canada Consumer financial performance.  This position will drive business value by identifying and implementing process improvements by driving change in the end-to-end revenue cycle management process. The individual will work as part of the Regulated Go-To-Market team, however, will influence the goals and objectives of the Competitive Go-To-Market, Customer Management, Digital & Marketing, Product, Operations, Finance and Regulatory Affairs teams and the DELP/NRG service delivery teams. 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversight into the timely and accurate revenue management for approximately 850,000 gas and electricity sites and annual billings of approximately $1.5B.
  • Managing performance expectations, regulatory compliance, adherence to business policy and procedures as well as supporting programs and services associated with the NRG delivery of customer end to end revenue assurance processes.
  • Apply analytical and critical thinking to generate innovative and practical solutions that improve efficiency and financial results.
  • Function as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) within Canada Consumer for end to end revenue management and market transactions and serve as the liaison and point of contact between Canada Consumer teams, and NRG delivery teams to ensure the service levels and business requirements are achieved. 
  • Responsible for oversight of controls and processes related to end to end revenue collection including ensuring customer bills are generated accurately and on-time, collections, remittance, revenue controls, and associated policies and procedure are in place and adhered to.
  • Identify impacts of regulatory changes to both regulated and competitive business units related to end to end revenue assurance processes and ensure that the NRG delivery teams receive and understand the related business requirements.
  • Investigate and report issues to internal and external stakeholders regarding any issues or incidents where Direct Energy/NRG may have impacts related to Alberta market rules and compliance standards and provide direction regarding remediation.
  • Understand, review and validate metrics related to back-office processes as required by the DEML-DELP inter-affiliate agreement.
  • Assess end to end revenue management workflows, systems and proposed changes and their effect on business and continuity. Review business proposals tactfully and provide guidance and insight from a broader perspective with all operations considered instilling preservation of quality standards while driving and supporting growth.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal departments including go-to-market, IT, finance, legal and compliance to provide timely and effective resolution to any end to end revenue assurance challenges, incidents, issues or errors; effectively communicate findings to the appropriate parties; take initiative and follow-through as the liaison with other Canada Consumer or NRG delivery teams as necessary.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Some travel may be required.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Business or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a combination of customer care and billing operations, financial analysis, business, operational effectiveness or related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SAP and/or Banking experience as well as extensive knowledge of the Alberta Utilities Market – in particular AUC Rule 004, Rule 021, Rule 028, Rule 003 and Rule 032
  • Utility operations background combined with a strong knowledge of contract management, service level oversight and vendor management.  
  • Preference for candidates with experience within the energy industry, ideally in customer operations, finance, compliance or commercial areas.
  • Understanding of the Alberta regulatory utility industry.
  • Knowledge of the Alberta retail natural gas and electricity market.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven leadership qualities preferably in an analytical environment.
  • Superior analytical skills including expertise in Excel and model development and ability to pass on these skills to team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to provide influence and direction to individuals at or above one’s level.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to present confidently to wide-ranging audience including leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to excel in a fast paced, changing environment; effectively managing multiple activities and meeting deadlines.
