Job description

Counsellor - Home Based

Schedule: Full time and part time (minimum 4 days per week) Rotational shifts of 8am-4pm & 12pm-8pm

Salary: £28,500 per annum

Location: Remote

Reports to: Senior Counsellor

We are currently looking for qualified counsellor to join our Employee Assistance Program team. You will be home-based providing short-term, solution-focused counselling. We provide a 24/7 confidential support service to our client’s employees nationwide. They can call our number to speak to a qualified counsellor about issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, debt advice and family issues. Working as part of this team you will provide confidential advice, and further therapy if needed.

About the role

Utilising technology to support a team environment, but enabling home-based working, you will help deliver structured counselling to employees of commissioning organisations across public and private sectors. With robust induction and training, 121 clinical supervision, case management, peer supervision and a monthly CPD programme, you will be supported to grow as a practitioner and individual. We offer clients psychological support via our EAP, a short-term model moving through to secondary-tier mental health and a wide range of training and additional clinical services. You can expect clients with a wide range of presenting issues both work and home related. Our EAP team provide a 24/7 confidential support service alongside access to telephone, virtual and face-to-face counselling and support. There may be opportunities for onsite working in our partner NHS and Blue Light services as we continue to develop and grow.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivery of virtual, face-to-face and telephone counselling to a short-term model and triage to treatment models in line with NICE guidelines.
  • Undertaking clinical assessment, risk management and counselling sessional delivery.
  • Home working supported by our triage and 24/7 senior clinical management team.
  • Conducting telephone assessments including referral for ongoing psychological support.
  • Providing support calls to employees and managers and signposting to appropriate external agencies
  • Offering Psychoeducation
  • Managing elevated risk calls
  • Providing advice to managers/HR on a need’s basis
  • Supporting clients within our CCBT programs
  • Duties commensurate with training and experience to meet service needs.
  • Occasional on-call work (max 3 occasions/year)


What We’re Looking For

  • Diploma (minimum Level 4) in Counselling and/or Psychotherapy.
  • A minimum of two years post-qualification experience.
  • Registered/Accredited Membership with BACP or similar (this is essential to be eligible for the role)
  • Telephone, virtual and face to face sessional counselling delivery experience
  • Additional training further to their Diploma qualification.
  • Experience of EAP Clinical Delivery (or equivalent) or experience of working within a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
  • Experience of applying Trauma informed approach to work
  • Computer literate essential, alongside the ability to work as part of a team but also autonomously.
  • All candidates will be required to hold enhanced DBS (we can process this on your behalf if you do not have this).


Interview Process

Our interview process involves 2 main stages:

  • Short call with a member of the Talent team
  • An interview with colleagues from the Clinical team (1 hour)


If successful after these stages, we will discuss and agree your shift pattern and contract.

We will provide you with all the IT and workstation equipment needed, and check in with you prior to your start date to ensure you have everything you need. You will receive a full 4 week induction, online and with others, which starts with an introduction from the Directors, Service Managers, HR & line managers and meeting some of your new colleagues. 

We will then support you with “on the job” training to help you practice the skills you will need to perform the role. We have a team of seniors there to support you every step of the way
