Job description

Why MSI? We thrive on solving challenges. As a leading MGA, MSI combines deep underwriting expertise with insurer risk capacity to create specialized insurance solutions that empower distribution partners to meet customers’ unique needs. We have a passion for crafting solutions for the important risks facing individuals and businesses. We offer an expanding suite of products – from fully-digital embedded renters coverage to high-value homeowners insurance to sophisticated commercial coverages, such as cyber liability and habitational property – delivered through agents, brokers, wholesalers and other brand partners.

Our partners and customers count on us to deliver exceptional service through a dedicated team that makes rapid resolutions a priority. We simplify the insurance experience through our advanced technology platform that supports every phase of the policy lifecycle. Bring on your challenges and let us show you how we build insurance better.

As the Head of Commercial Lines Product, reporting to MSI’s Chief Product Officer, you will build and manage an innovative product management team supporting our growing suite of commercial lines products. You will partner closely with MSI’s commercial lines business leads to understand their strategies and design new products to fit specific market needs, while also partnering with MSI’s actuarial, predictive/CAT modeling, and business intelligence teams to build new analytical assets that enable MSI’s commercial lines data and analytics capabilities to be a source of significant competitive advantage in the market. As a critical member of MSI’s extended leadership team, you will drive connectivity and alignment of insurance program priorities and ensure clarity of results and action plans. Leading a team of four colleagues with plans for additional growth, you will champion inclusion, collaboration and development as the MGA begins the scaling of our commercial businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Build out commercial product function (General Liability, Property, Umbrella, D&O, Cyber and other Professional Lines) to provide parallel capabilities to mature personal lines team.
  • Partner with commercial lines business leaders to define MSI’s position in the marketplace, contribute to new product development, and optimize growth to drive sustainable carrier and reinsurer relationships.
  • Drive data-driven decision making by collaborating with MSI’s actuarial, predictive/CAT modeling, and business intelligence teams to build analytical assets that help optimize commercial lines underwriting performance. Share results transparently with internal and external stakeholders, overseeing the analysis and reporting of exposure and loss information.
  • Direct teams to conduct regular product reviews to assess performance, profitability, and market competitiveness, and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Create alignment and collaboration across Underwriting, Distribution, Legal/Compliance, Claims and Operations teams ensuring joint prioritization/focus on each program.
  • Understand admitted and non-admitted market dynamics such as state-by-state insurance regulations and surplus lines requirements. Build tools, processes, and documentation to ensure repeatable and compliant product development and implementations.
  • Manage, mentor and develop a diverse group of product managers, ensuring defined development and career pathing programs are in place to attract and retain colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Statistics or related field
  • Advanced degree or FCAS/ACAS preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in P&C commercial product development and management across a variety of products and go to market strategies
  • Experience with insurance pricing / ratemaking principles and procedures, as well as policy contract construction and coverage form development
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify findings for broad audiences and translate data into actions
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build consensus among stakeholders and build an inclusive and engaging environment for remote first colleagues
