Department of Revenue is recruiting for a Research Assistant - Administrative Specialist 1 position. We are looking for talented, detail-oriented individuals to join our Research Section. This position is headquartered in our Salem office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in-state hybrid work.  Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely.  ***This position has an in-office requirement of once a week or based on business need.

What You Will Be Doing

Below is a sampling of job duties. It is not meant to encompass all duties.

  • Coordinate the Research Section’s response to surveys, formal requests for information, and regular reporting of data, such as the annual District of Columbia Tax Burden Study, Bureau of the Census, Department of Administrative Services, and Federation of Tax Administrators, and others.

  • Coordinate the efficient flow of information between the Department of Revenue and numerous agencies required for the construction of the biennial Tax Expenditure Report. Ensure that deadlines for analysis and review have been met and that DOR has provided all necessary information.

  • Edit, proof, and arrange material for printing and distribution of the section’s annual statistical publications, Tax Expenditure Report, and other research reports. Integrate text and graphics for publications and perform other formatting tasks using tools including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Creative Suite products. Arrange for the printing and mailing of section publications.

This Is What You Need To Qualify
Two years of secretarial or basic administrative support experience that includes records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data; OR

An associate degree in general office occupations and one year of experience with records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data; OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in support of shared team goals

  • Comfortable with Excel and working with data

  • Willingness to regularly try new kinds of projects or tasks

  • Experience handling multiple short-term and long-term tasks concurrently

  • Accountability in performance and flexibility in approach to new things

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
