Description

The Network Director Climate Science, Food and Nature at the Global Strategic Communications Council is a member of the Global Leadership Team and is accountable for the development and execution of impactful strategies across our climate science, food and nature work undertaken by teams in collaboration with the wider network.

As a member of the GLT, you will work with other network directors to guide the strategic direction and enhance the impact of the diverse and complex network as a whole to advance GSCC's mission.


How you'll contribute


  • Managing, guiding and supporting strategic impact across our climate science, food and nature work, so that they are effective in supporting our mission.

  • Contributing to the overall strategic direction of the network in a collaboration with Global Leadership Team colleagues.

  • Being an active and engaged member of the leadership team of an international network of communications specialists who work to enhance media debate and public discourse.

  • Managing diverse teams globally.

  • Creating an inspiring team environment and proactively supporting professional development and growth of team members.

  • Building, maintaining, and utilizing relationships with a wide range of partners to achieve strategic impact, acting as a point person for the network.

  • Developing structures and approaches that can react quickly to emerging opportunities and changes in the external context, while working with an international network to guide the delivery of relevant communications content.

  • Fundraising, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on communications efforts (including some financial and administrative tasks) including producing fundraising proposals and fundraising reporting, in close collaboration with the operations team.

  • Developing structures and approaches that can track and monitor impact in a way that supports teams and is in line with the network's Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning efforts.

  • Any other duties to be assigned from time to time

  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding and professional experience of climate, nature and energy strategic communications, including, for example, natural systems and science.

  • Strong vision with the ability to assess a changing landscape and develop a strategic vision, identifying the most crucial intervention points that add value to the overall discourse in highly pressured environments.

  • A solid understanding of the changing global political and media landscape.

  • Multiple years experience of building and managing diverse teams, infrastructure and managing projects in an international environment.

  • Experience recruiting and managing consultants and external agencies.

  • Track record delivering effective communications strategies on complex global issues in collaboration with a diverse network.

  • Strong diplomatic skills and interpersonal skills which allow you to quickly build trust with colleagues, partners, experts, funders, and civil society and gravitas sufficient to work directly with high profile individuals and partners from diverse backgrounds at all levels.

  • Highly networked with a diverse range of partners.

  • Excellent time and priority management, high level of self-motivation, independence and can-do mentality, good team-player with a passion for excellence.

  • Ability to track a range of relevant and complex issues.

  • Outstanding English language skills, with a track record of producing engaging and impactful communications materials, including fundraising proposals, reporting, and communications strategies.

  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers.

  • The strong multi-disciplinary skillset necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work nimbly across phone/video conferencing, timezones, slack, email, Trello, etc.

Location: flexibly remote.
