Binnies are recruiting for an experienced GIS Engineer/Consultant to join our GIS team.
In this role you will perform various GIS and information management tasks such as data capture and translation, spatial analysis, reporting and visualization tasks on water utilities, flooding, environmental and engineering related projects. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Assist colleagues in developing new business and winning new work;
- Take part in producing proposals: Including technical methodologies and financial proposal and presenting to clients;
- Constantly assess the market for new developments within the GIS community to keep moving forward;
- Taking part in evaluating user needs for information management and mapping.
- Providing recommendations to projects for the most appropriate solution and approach.
- user needs report;
- gap analysis;
- project based standards documentation;
- project based management plan;
- development of methodologies and procedures;
- database design; and
- solutions for using various GIS based tools such as web mapping, mobile data collection, desktop GIS analysis and custom user tools, final visualisation and presentation of data.
- Manage implementation of such recommendations by the wider GIS team and/or other technology specialists;
- Assist in the design and implementation of:
- improved processes for quality control and assessment of incoming and outgoing data;
- on-going development and implementation of standards for day-to-day GIS processes and data management; and
- geoprocessing scripts to automate complex tasks and improve efficiencies.
- Assist projects from various sectors with management and analysis of geospatial data;
- Occasionally assist colleagues with data analysis and mapping for report final figure production;
- Provide guidance, mentoring and problem solving support to GIS team colleagues;
- Assist in collaboration across the global GIS practice by sharing knowledge to promote business improvement across distributed teams this will include:
- presenting on project examples, capabilities and and/or tools;
- provide occasional training activities to other GIS team members and users and across sectors; and
- actively taking part in discussion topics, answering questions from others and posting questions or information using internal collaboration tools.
- Mentor and Supervise Analyst and Graduates within the team;
- Digitisation, Data Capture and Translation;
- Data Editing and Manipulation;
- Reporting: Data querying, filtering and summarising (ArcGIS, MS Excel, MS Access etc.).
- Geoprocessing: Use of ArcGIS tools and creation, modification and running of complex workflows within ArcGIS ModelBuilder or FME. Experience of ESRI ArcGIS online. Configuration of ArcGIS online App and Field Apps
- Spatial and 3D Analysis: Creation of raster data, understanding of interpolation and extrapolation. Understanding of raster analysis. Use of Digital Terrain and Surface Models.
- Data Management: Application of version control and naming conventions. Knowledge of the different database and geodatabase types and their uses. Understanding of metadata.
- Dealing with internal clients and project managers, able to communicate effectively with colleagues and managers both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications/Requirements
You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge;
- Formal ArcGIS training, knowledge of ArcGIS tools.
- BSc in Physical Sciences/Earth Sciences such as Geography or MSc in Remote Sensing, GIS or similar
- Graduate
- Previous work in UK water industry
- Experience user of ESRI ArcGIS Online, Desktop and Pro.
- Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) FME Workbenches, Configuration of Complex workflow.
Functional experience in the following:
- Spatial Analysis, 3D Analysis
- Relational databases: MSAccess –database creation and querying SQL
