Job description

We're protecting and enhancing America's National Park System for present and future generations.

National Parks Conversation Association (NPCA), the nation’s oldest and largest national parks nonprofit advocate, has an exciting opportunity for a Visitation Program Resource Development Intern.   

Responsibilities:

The purpose of the project is to enhance understanding and communication at NPCA about visitor use management planning and actions. The intern will create resources for staff education on visitor use / recreation resource management. These resources will also support the visitation program’s effort to coordinate NPCA’s work on visitor use management across the national park system and ensure NPCA offers consistent recommendations in its technical comments.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct research to support NPCA’s growing work on visitor use management
  • Create user-friendly resources for staff education and guidance
  • Confer with experts (i.e., NPCA staff, academic researchers, National Park Service employees, etc.) to glean context for resources in development
  • Work with supervisor, visitation leadership team and other NPCA staff to refine the objectives of the deliverables and make collaborative decisions about elements to include in deliverables

 

Location:  Remote

Schedule:  10-12 Hours (negotiable) per week, March 2025 – May 2025

Compensation: $24.00/hour

Tangible deliverables that will be achieved: 

A final report of research findings composed of three resource documents:

  1. definitions for key visitor use terms and concepts
  2. framework for technical comments on visitor use planning processes
  3. review of managed access system design features that support equity

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Recent graduate (within 12 months) or current graduate students in related program preferred

·       Strong writing skills

·       Familiarity with visitor use management

·       Recreation resource management and related concepts

 Ideal Work Schedule:  1 hour of virtual meetings (alternating bi-weekly 60-minute virtual check-in with supervisor and bi-weekly 60-minute visitation leadership team meeting), 2 hours of logistical communication (email communication with supervisor and leadership team, outreach to experts) 7-9 hours of flex project time (research, writing, meetings with experts)
