Job description

Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

We have six regional centres Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centres. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.

The Role

The Digital Content Designer will provide operational and professional support for the delivery of content for digital services which provide an innovative and effective delivery channel for products and services that contribute to corporate outcomes and the organisational strategy. While displaying the NHS Values of: Care and Compassion; Dignity and Respect; Openness, Honesty and Responsibility; Quality and Teamwork in delivering all aspects of the role.

This role is temporary until September 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion the innovative use of websites and apps, digital media, digital marketing campaigns and online transactions, to improve internal and external engagement, supporting the organisation to embrace the benefits of an effective digital presence. Working closely with the Stakeholder Engagement and User Research function.
  • Work closely with the Senior Digital Content Designers and Digital Content Editorial Lead to develop and deliver high quality content assets, working collaboratively within project teams, or as an individual, effectively delivering smaller scale projects.
  • Provide professional advice to colleagues across the organisation on matters of digital content, project delivery and budget management. This will include negotiation and influence to change perceptions and expectations of staff at all levels of the ‘best way’ to deliver digital content activities and ensure effective organisational presence.
  • Work collaboratively across directorates to ensure a creative and innovative approach to using digital channels are effectively marketed to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver training and presentations on digital content to a range of staff at varying levels of seniority.

Successful Applicant Will

  • Hold a graduate level qualification, professional certification or equivalent experience in a communications, content design or information and knowledge management discipline.
  • Have experience of designing and delivering usable and accessible digital content including information architecture, online transactions, digital marketing campaigns and of using content management systems.
  • Be able to communicate effectively formally and informally in writing and in person by listening to and understanding the views of customers, partners and stakeholders and conveying complex or difficult messages clearly and concisely and in an appropriate way for the audience.
  • Demonstrate excellent personal organisational skills including effective work planning and delivery and compliance with all required organisational processes such as financial procedures.
  • Maintain the ability to work and contribute effectively as part of a team and to focus on the delivery of high quality services to the team’s customers, be they internal or external.

Benefits

NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a temporary contract on Band 5 with a salary ranging from £31,892 to £39,735 Per Annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
