Job description

As the State Government Affairs Liaison, you will support AFP’s state teams in advancing policy initiatives across state capitols by building relationships and executing effective lobbying strategies.

How You Will Contribute

Develop and maintain relationships with state legislators, executive offices, and partners to advance AFP priorities

Provide liaison and resource support to state teams, coalitions, and elected officials

Monitor, research, and analyze legislative trends, tracking and addressing pending legislation

Collaborate with internal teams to create advocacy materials and offer political insights for initiatives

Advise state teams on legislative strategies and annual priorities

Represent AFP at events and meetings with state officials

Manage public-facing strategies and oversee a portfolio of national policy issues

What You Will Bring

3+ years in a government, legislative, political, or advocacy role

Customer-focused attitude and proven strategic execution

Strong relationships with state officials and/or partner groups

Passion for and knowledge of state policy and political landscapes

Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills—ability to offer and build bottom-up solutions

Effective communication, collaboration, and presentation abilities.

Willingness to share and develop government affairs best practices and knowledge through internal and external trainings

Excited by and ready to contribute to our Culture

Openness to travel up to 50% of the time
