Pacific Life is actively seeking a talented Underwriting Managing Director to join our Consumer Markets Division and lead a team of Underwriters. This role supports 100% remote work.
As an Underwriting Managing Director, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success as a people leader and deeply technical Underwriting subject matter expert. You'll evaluate insurance applicants, correlating all aspects of risk to determine whether to accept, modify or decline applications. You'll focus on mortality by evaluating risk of death which includes history, degree of medical maintenance, treatment, and flags of potential future risk. Our underwriters are a crucial part to the placement of Life Insurance coverage and can directly impact our position in the marketplace and relationship with distribution partners.

How you'll help move us forward:
Complete wing-to-wing underwriting decision:
Complete wing-to-wing underwriting decisions, starting with review of upfront underwriting data and tools
Staff coaching and development of Underwriting Consultants and Senior Consultants
Handle additional underwriting requirements by determining value, ordering, and reviewing to perform risk selection
Finalizing cases and performing second-sign duties as needed
Demonstrate dependability, organization, and sound judgment by adhering to schedules and meeting all productivity, quality, and performance standards.
The experience you bring:
10 - 12+ Years of Life Insurance Underwriting experience with proven proficiency in underwriting processes and philosophies
5+ Years of team management experience in an Underwriting capacity
Ability to handle advanced decision level authorities without a co-signature ($15 Million or higher)
Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships both internally and externally
Critical thinking skills and attention to detail with the ability to quickly identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events
Ability to interpret meaning of information for others; translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used
Ability to develop specific goals, plan, and prioritize work
What makes you stand out:
Bachelor's Degree
BGA and Trial Experience Preferred
Completion of FALU, CLU, FLMI or other insurance related course work
Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$145,080.00 - $177,320.00
