Job description

FORT brings together the best technologists who have spent their careers working to solve the most complex and dangerous aspects of robotics.

The company was founded in 2018 by Samuel Reeves, who spent the previous decade making landmine clearance safer through robotics. During this time, Reeves realized that secure communications – considered core infrastructure elsewhere in technology – didn’t exist for robots in fields like construction, agriculture, warehousing, or elsewhere.

FORT was founded to create a first-of-its-kind Robotics Control Platform (RCP) to empower companies with unique tools to ensure robots cause no harm.

We seek a dynamic and experienced Product Owner to guide the development of our Device platform, a leading-edge solution for managing autonomous and robotic systems.

As a critical member of our agile device platform team, the Product Owner will be crucial in defining user stories, prioritizing the team backlog, and ensuring that our solutions meet high quality and efficiency standards. This position demands a proactive individual who can manage product features from inception to deployment, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and interact with customers to gather and translate requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary liaison between the device platform team and the rest of the engineering organization, ensuring clear communication and alignment on product vision and execution.
Own and manage the product backlog, prioritize tasks effectively, and guide the team in understanding the business's needs.
Develop detailed, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria to ensure that developments align with defined requirements and business goals.
Support customers using our devices, helping them maximize the value of our devices and platform in their operations.
Engage in regular backlog grooming sessions and collaborate closely with SI&T and Cloud Platform teams to refine and iterate on product developments, ensuring readiness for implementation.
Work closely with system architects, designers, and engineers to develop and refine product specifications and requirements.
Validate that product changes and features meet all acceptance criteria, ensuring a seamless and practical user experience.
Make informed product decisions based on validated metrics and user feedback.
Translate technical and non-technical customer requirements from Product Management into actionable plans for the development team.
Utilize tools like Jira to monitor progress and report on product development status.
Advocate for best practices in Agile and Scrum methodologies within the team, helping to guide and mentor team members in these processes.

Qualifications:

At least two years of professional experience as a Product Owner in a software development environment.
Minimum of 3 years experience working with software development for embedded systems.
Strong background in working with hardware and embedded software.
Excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills.
Ability to quickly understand business needs, product details, and the specific requirements of the device platform.
Proven ability to engage directly with users and customers, demonstrating a methodical and resourceful approach.
Expert knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
Practical communication skills can convey complex ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Highly motivated, driven to achieve challenging goals, and committed to the organization's mission and values.
Personable, optimistic, and patient, with a collaborative spirit and readiness to engage in constructive discussions.
