JOB SUMMARY


The Head of Operational Accounting will manage the day-to-day operational accounting activities and engage with clients on accounting matters, particularly in loan and lease accounting. This role will oversee key functional areas such as cashiering, client controllers, booking, and contract modifications while managing a team of three area managers responsible for these areas. The position focuses on ensuring financial accuracy of client accounts, financial controls, operational efficiency, and client satisfaction without direct responsibility for corporate financial reporting or budgeting.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • This role supervises three main leaders: AVP, Bookings; VP, Cash Management; and VP, Client Controller
  • Responsible for the hiring. Training, employee development, retaining and disciplinary action of the Finance and Accounting and guides leaders on this aspect.
  • Performs annual performance reviews for all direct reports, and guides them performing their own reviews to the staff.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


    • Leadership and Team Management: Directly oversee three Assistant/Vice Presidents responsible for Booking, Client Controllers, and Cashiering, providing strategic direction and leadership. 
    • Operational Accounting: Oversee operational accounting functions to ensure efficient processes and accurate financial records. 
    • Cashiering: Manage cashiering operations, including posting payments, payment adjustments, handling waivers, Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs), and cash reconciliations. 
    • Client Controllers: Oversee client reporting, master servicing, and the management of Non-Sufficient Funds (NSFs) through the VP of Client Controllers. 
    • Booking: Oversee the onboarding of new contracts, including e-booking, manual bookings, and portfolio onboarding, through the VP of Booking. 
    • Modifications: Ensure the accurate processing of contract modifications and compliance with policies. 
    • Client Engagement: Act as the primary accounting contact for clients, addressing inquiries and providing expertise on loan and lease accounting matters. 
    • Internal Controls: Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial reporting accuracy. 
    • Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for automation and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency. 
    • Compliance and Audit: Ensure compliance with financial regulations and manage internal and external audits. 
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Finance, Operations, IT) to support business objectives and improve financial processes. 
    • Client On-Boarding: Support new client onboarding with accounting expertise and guidance to ensure proper portfolio onboarding and client product booking setup. 
    • Vendor Operational Management: Lead operational management efforts of key client accounting systems-of-record, overseeing change orders, relationship management, and service quality management. 


    TRAVEL


    • Potential to visit corporate headquarters as requested no more than quarterly.


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 


    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 
    • 8+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. 
    • Expertise in loan and lease accounting. 
    • Experience managing teams at a senior level, with direct oversight of senior leaders (VP level). 
    • Strong understanding of ERP systems and accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle). 
    • Excellent client service skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients on complex accounting topics. 
    • Strong leadership and team development skills. 
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


    • CPA preferred.
    • Certified Leasing and Finance Professional (CLFP).
