About The Role
As a SMART Manufacturing Data Engineer you will guide the development of data science and data engineering projects across our manufacturing plants. This role is critical to unlocking the value of data through architecture, predictive analytics that enhance operational efficiency, quality, in a smart manufacturing environment.
You will report to the Senior Manager Digital Manufacturing and supported remotely with 25% travel.
Key Responsibilities
Deploy advanced analytics models, including machine learning (ML) and statistical algorithms, to solve complex manufacturing problems (e.g., predictive maintenance, quality control, process optimization).
Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inspire measurable improvements in plant operations.
Collaborate with teams to define Indicators and analytics solutions tailored to plant-specific challenges.
Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools to monitor and predict process performance.
Develop scalable data pipelines and architectures to collect, process, and store large volumes of manufacturing data.
Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance across different systems.
Develop ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from MES, ERP, IIoT devices, and other systems.
Optimize database performance for analytics applications.
Lead teams in identifying data-driven opportunities and delivering solutions aligned with our goals.
Work with IT, engineering, and plant teams to implement data solutions into manufacturing workflows.
Be the subject matter expert for data science and engineering best practices within the smart manufacturing group.
Manage multiple data science and engineering projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery and measurable impact.
Communicate project progress, challenges, and outcomes to senior leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of combined experience in data science and data engineering roles in manufacturing or industrial environments.
Experience deploying machine learning models and building data pipelines in production environments.
Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and analytics tools.
Proficiency in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
Knowledge of manufacturing systems (MES, ERP) and industrial data protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Modbus).
Familiarity with visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau..
Certifications in data science, machine learning, or cloud platforms.
Experience with IIoT systems and real-time data processing.
Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles.
