Summary of Position:

The Senior Director/Director, Global Health Economics & Outcomes Research (GHEOR), reporting to the VP, Global Medical Affairs, will be a member of the Medical Affairs team, responsible for the overall strategy and execution of the global HEOR research plan to support global market access, reimbursement and scientific communication of HEOR data, dossiers, and tools. The successful candidate will be accountable for leading global HEOR evidence generation activities and serving as a subject matter expert for HEOR strategies and research. This position requires leadership and collaboration with cross-functional teams to build and support strategies and tactics that differentiate Scholar Rock products, generate HEOR data to support value demonstration, and facilitate scientific communication of these data to payers, health systems, HTAs, advocacy groups and other key stakeholders. This individual will serve as a HEOR partner for counterparts in Medical Affairs, R&D, Market Access, and Commercial across key global regions.

The Work You’ll Be Doing:
  • Utilize strong expertise in HEOR strategies and methodologies across relevant disease states to identify HEOR evidence gaps/requirements and lead the design/execution of HEOR studies (e.g., prospective and retrospective observational studies, real world data analyses and studies, PRO studies, cost effectiveness and budget impact models, qualitative and quantitative primary or secondary research) that demonstrate product value and optimize market access.  
  • Provide strategic and timely recommendations to clinical development programs by identifying appropriate comparators, target patient populations, and key HEOR endpoints (clinical, economic, PROs) that optimize product differentiation and support a compelling value proposition.
  • Work with cross functional teams and business partners to serve as a strategic partner and support the incorporation of HEOR strategies into commercial evaluations and portfolio management decisions to demonstrate product value to achieve optimal pricing and market access.
  • Identify and maintain successful research relationships with HEOR key opinion and industry leaders and European/regional HTA organizations and policy think-tanks.
  • Develop a strong HEOR strategy, accountable for effective execution of global HEOR tactics; ensure strong representation of HEOR at the program team and global brand team. 
  • Provide strategic oversight for HEOR activities across regions by partnering with key internal partners to track relevant HEOR milestones.
  • Provide HEOR input for integrated evidence generation strategy; ensure timely execution of HEOR led studies to address needs of key stakeholders (payers, HTA and other relevant stakeholders).
  • Partner with medical communications team to ensure timely and impactful dissemination of HEOR scientific data as well as effective training of broad medical affairs team.
  • Ensure effective partnership with local and/or regional stakeholders both internally and externally to support reimbursement applications and market access. 
  • Effectively and efficiently manage multiple HEOR related projects and associated resources, including cost center budget, vendors, consultants and other expenses related to /HEOR.

  • The Expertise We’re Looking For:
  • MD, PhD in life sciences, PharmD, or Masters-level degree in an HEOR related field.
  • 5-7 years’ experience (MD, PhD, PharmD) or 10+ years’ experience (master’s degree) in HEOR roles within pharmaceutical industry and/or life science consultancy or relevant experience with a documented track record for success.
  • Technical experience required includes expertise in the design and conduct of HEOR evidence synthesis projects, with excellent knowledge of pairwise and network meta-analysis, population adjusted indirect comparisons, clinical outcomes assessments (COAs), patient reported outcomes (PROs) and comparative effectiveness research. 
  • Experience and ability to design and manage HEOR projects (RWE, models, dossiers, etc.) that fulfill the requirements for relevant HTA regulatory submissions (e.g., NICE). 
  • Strong track record of delivering results with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capable of managing shifting priorities in a rapidly changing and environment
  • Prior experience working in the neurology and/or rare diseases and understanding market trends for rare diseases is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (~15%)
