Job description

What We're Looking For

Stytch is the platform for user authentication. We build infrastructure that sits in the critical path of our customer's applications. As an Experienced Data Engineer, you'll work on designing and building data tooling that enables Stytch and Stytch’s customers to gain valuable insights about their users.

This is a hybrid, full-time position based in the SF Bay Area. We aren’t looking for someone to be in-office 5 days per week, but are looking for someone who is excited to collaborate in-person on a weekly basis (2-3 days per week in-office).

What Excites You

  • A collaborative environment with a tight feedback loop between the work you do and the impact it has on users.

  • Solving problems with pragmatic solutions — you know when to make trade offs between complexity and shipping quickly.

  • Building products that make developers lives easier — as a data engineer for a developer infrastructure company, what you build will have an immediate impact on our customers.

  • Shaping the culture and growing the team through recruiting, mentorship, and establishing best practices.

  • Learning new skills and technologies in a fast paced environment.

What Excites Us

  • 5+ years as a data engineer.

  • Strong expertise in designing, implementing and supporting data pipelines.

  • Strong expertise in building systems and datasets to gather product and user metrics.

  • Expertise in database fundamentals necessary for data retrieval and investigation.

  • Expertise in best practices for data reliability, fault tolerance, and integrity.

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS), including Kinesis.

  • Experience optimizing data integration with ETL orchestration.

  • Experience designing and building highly reliable systems at scale.

  • Some experience with observability tooling (e.g. ELK, Datadog, Honeycomb) and a compiled language (e.g. Go).

  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker) and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, GitOps).

What Success Looks Like

  • Technical — build highly reliable data systems that our customers can depend on.

  • Ownership — advocate for projects and solutions that you believe in and ship them to production.

  • Leadership — level up your teammates by providing mentorship and guidance.

Our Tech Stack

  • MySQL and Elasticsearch for data storage

  • dbt for ETL

  • Snowflake for our data warehouse

  • Kinesis, SQS, Fivetran, Fluentbit, and Filebeat for sending and receiving data

  • AWS with Kubernetes for service orchestration

  • Terraform and GitOps to manage our infrastructure

  • Go for backend services

Expected base salary $185,000 - $225,000. The anticipated base salary range is not inclusive of full benefits including equity, health care insurance, time off, paid parental leave, etc. This base salary is accurate based on information at the time of posting. Actual compensation for hired candidates will be determined using a number of factors including experience, skills, and qualifications.

We're looking to hire a GREAT team and that means hiring people who are highly empathetic, ambitious, and excited about building the future of user authentication. You should feel empowered to apply for this role even if your experience doesn't exactly match up to our job description (our job descriptions are directional and not perfect recipes for exactly what we need).

We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workspace where everyone (regardless of age, education, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any personal characteristics) feels like they belong. We look forward to hearing from you!
