M4BL INSTITUTIONAL GIVING MANAGER

Schedule: Full-Time

Location: Remote, 20% travel required

Reports to: Philanthropic Operations & Grants Management Deputy Director

Salary: $102,000 - $127,000 with full health benefits for employee and dependents,

employer-funded retirement plan, remote work stipend, flexible time off and sick days.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a key member of the Resource Development team, the Institutional Giving Manager works with the Philanthropic Operations and Grant Management Deputy Director to develop and implement a cohesive institutional relations resource generation strategy for M4BL. This role will oversee and implement all aspects of a successful grants program, including prospecting and cultivation, drafting funder communications, maintaining consistent stewardship, ensuring accurate record keeping and managing grants. The Manager will maintain a portfolio of foundation relationships and act as the lead grant writer on the team to support other frontline fundraisers in their stewardship activities. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing all phases of the grant cycle, including researching funding opportunities, managing budgets and deadlines, and tracking and reporting on impact and results.


This role includes travel approximately five weeks per year for internal staff gatherings, convening with M4BL’s ecosystem organizations, and external conferences. May also require travel and work on occasional weekends and evenings as determined.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Prospecting and Cultivation

  • Support resource generation efforts to form funding partnerships with institutional supporters and foundations through research, landscape analysis, power mapping, relationship building, and attending and presenting at conferences
  • Systematize the constant infusion of new prospects and funding partners, collaborating with the Philanthropic Operations & Grant Management Deputy Director and the Development Operations Lead to compile prospect research and track cultivation activities
  • Develop a rich understanding of M4BL’s mission, programs, history, partnerships, and strategic goals to educate and inspire funders
  • Work across the organization to identify priority programs and emerging issues to leverage for institutional funding requests, LOIs, and proposals


Foundation Relations & Grant Stewardship

  • Manage a sophisticated portfolio of institutional partnerships and funders
  • Track deadlines and draft grant applications and reports on behalf of all institutional relationship managers on the team
  • Maintain a consistent stewardship calendar that engages institutional funders through timely communications, meetings, event invitations, and more
  • Collaborate with Development Operations Lead to ensure all stewardship activities, pledges, and grant payments are tracked accurately in the CRM


Grant Management

  • Review funding agreements to identify key terms and restrictions and work with the Development Operations Lead and Finance & Operations team to ensure restrictions are communicated and grant money is tracked in accordance to grant agreements.
  • Maintain lines of communication with program teams to gather information related to projects with restricted funding and facilitate the smooth flow of information regarding project activities and related spending
  • Work collaboratively with M4BL teams to manage reporting deadlines and ensure reports are completed and requirements are met.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 4 years of nonprofit or movement building experience that is centered on resource generation
  • Proven track record of establishing and overseeing a comprehensive grants program
  • History of grant writing, including but not limited to funding requests, grant proposals, and reports
  • Proven track record personally identifying and soliciting sophisticated foundation grants through identification, cultivation, and stewardship
  • Ability to translate complex racial justice organizing and advocacy initiatives into narratives and campaigns that educate, inspire, and engage donors 
  • Experience with C4 fundraising guidelines and political fundraising campaigns
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently with varying timelines and adapt to changes in project requirements and/or the work environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G Suite and experience with fundraising CRMs, preferably EveryAction
