Job description

Lotus Group is partnering with our valued client, who is a privately owned company serving the needs of Oil and Gas producers throughout Western Canada.  They are seeking a full time permanent Controller to join their team.  This position is a combination of work from home and travel to their field offices weekly.  

Reporting to the CEO, this position requires a proactive, tech-savvy individual with the skills to manage diverse financial and operational responsibilities, streamline processes, and drive continuous improvement.  You will have the opportunity to be instrumental in facilitating optimal operational performance through financial costing, reporting, forecasting, and systems improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides full cycle accounting and maintains day to day accounting operations.

  • Oversees payroll and accounts payable/receivable functions.

  • Liaises with department heads to ensure financial efficiencies throughout the year.

  • Prepares and presents annual budgets and financial forecasting.

  • Generates monthly company performance reports against forecasted budgets.

  • Makes recommendations to optimize financial performance and operational efficiencies.

  • Completes in-house monthly financial information.

  • Provides ongoing and year end documentation in a timely manner.

  • Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place with supporting documentation.

  • Monitors and updates accounting systems to ensure compliance and maintain integrity.

  • Builds and maintains relationships with external stakeholders, suppliers, clients, financial institutions, insurers and sub trades.

  • Researches and ensures continual compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations.

  • Submits Government filings (tax returns, regulatory reports, etc.)

  • Hires, trains, coaches and mentors accounting staff.

  • Sets priorities for the accounting department.

  • Develops and maintains financial policies and procedures.

Key Requirements:

  • Must have a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

  • Progressive hands-on experience managing day-to-day accounting and reporting functions.

  • Direct Oil & Gas Construction industry experience preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of various accounting systems.

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.

  • Excellent communication, time management and critical thinking skills.

  • Experience managing and mentoring staff.

  • Ability to be proactive and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
