POSITION SUMMARY:

The Healthy Planet Analyst III is a senior application analyst responsible for aligning IT technology solutions with  BMC value based care (VBC)  strategies. The Healthy Planet Analyst III is responsible for proactively identifying opportunities to apply technologies to clinical and operational business needs by informing and advising VBC as it relates to supporting ambulatory care for BMC patients and delivering strong contractual performance in risk-based contracts.  This role will primarily focus efforts on workflows within Epic while developing system tools and workflows to further the goals of related to the above efforts.  The Healthy Planet Analyst III functions as a senior member of the EHR team with the expectation of excellent product knowledge in Epic, displaying a leadership presence among their peers while showing the ability to take on additional responsibilities including project management of larger initiatives performing with a high degree of independence from IT leadership. The Healthy Planet Analyst III must develop and maintain credibility and effective working relations with both operational customers and fellow IT staff.  This can be demonstrated through an understanding of the clinical and operational problems faced and aligning technical opportunities to address those challenges.  Within IT, strong product knowledge within Epic is essential, coupled with knowledge of industry best practices, BMC system based standards and understanding of the nuances of our application portfolio of systems and what roles and requirements may be needed to successfully drive initiatives to completion.  This individual will be part of the VBC leadership committee focused on delivery of ambulatory care and strong contractual performance, bringing expertise in technology solutions as it relates to those priorities. The Healthy Planet Analyst III acts as an internal consultant to VBC, providing technical guidance to business processes on the most complex projects while possessing the ability to research and make technical recommendations towards strategic initiatives and goals. Must be competent to perform and execute work at a high level while using their strong understanding of operational processes in all areas of VBC, ambulatory primary and specialty care  (i.e. front end operations, clinical workflows, and high level revenue cycle processes) to assist in meeting various goals.  Priorities will be defined by the Population Health/VBC IT leadership committee and relate specifically to the BMC strategies to enhance provider and patient user experience, operational workflows, risk adjustment, total cost of care and quality of care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with management, other clinical and revenue application analysts and IT staff to define, design, and or create business processes and enabling technologies based on customer requirements.  Acts as liaison between VBC and IT technical staff to make sure the user needs are met.
  • Actively seeks ways to apply existing technologies to clinical challenges while researching and providing information on technical trends and practices relevant to primary care healthcare delivery at BMCHS.
  • Informs and advises customers on information system technologies’ functionality, standards, costs, benefits, and implementation requirements.
  • Maintains a current tracking of strategic business initiatives and goals of the VBC Leadership Committee.
  • Consults with other technical experts and develops application based solutions; seeks advice on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and BMCHS priorities. Liaison with other Epic application teams for integrated system components: ex: security templates, BPAs, registry development, regulatory requirements.
  • Recommend build options that improve clinical workflow efficiency associated with the use of the registry and/or analytics solution.
  • Prototype build options to showcase Healthy Planet functionality to engage stakeholders and enhance the requirements gathering phase.
  • Build registries and associated components (i.e., rules, metrics, groupers, flowsheets, BPAs, HM Plans and Topics, Workbench reports, Radar dashboards, etc.).
  • Provide day-to-day support and mentoring to end users who interact with the registries and/or any associated component.
  • Responsible for measuring the efficacy and efficiency of a registry and/or analytics solution post-implementation
  • Provide ad-hoc-level data analysis support to the team and external customers as needed.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert for Healthy Planet and maintains advanced knowledge of operational and clinical workflows supported by the application.
  • Prepares and presents formal presentations to both internal and external audiences.
  • Understands IT Governance framework and facilitates movement of desired projects.  Clearly articulating what requires a higher level approval and prioritization and what can be enacted upon solely based on the direction of the Population Health/VBC IT Leadership.
  • Ability to assess project work, providing estimates towards the level of effort, cost, resourcing and estimated timelines to complete project requests. 
  • Develops a project plan through scope, problem definition, functional and technical specifications, testing, delivery and support) and coordinates business/clinical and IT implementation resources for successful delivery. Actively participates in the EHR team environment facilitating colleagues to fulfill the department’s operating objectives where appropriate.
  • Anticipates and identifies issues proactively, and implements corrective actions.  Participates in the active maintenance and support of the Epic system as it relates to the VBC department and related ambulatory practice needs.
  • Keeps VBC  and EHR Leadership apprised of project status, proactively identifying risks and issues while offering mitigation plans.
  • As requested, evaluates new applications and make recommendations to VBC Leadership as well as IT management.
  • Provides services such as facilitating priority setting and brokering IT project prioritization on behalf of customers.
  • Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization.  This will include preparation and formal presentations to both internal committee and external audiences. 
  • Maintains strong working knowledge of the application technologies to facilitate requirements gathering and to educate end users in the relevant applications.
  • Responsible for all relevant build changes related to upgrades and reviewing of all related Epic nova notes.
  • Act as a mentor to new and less experienced applications analysts involving build guidance, training, task assignment, and project oversight.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • M.P.H. (Masters of Public Health) degree and/or R.N. (Registered Nurse) license a plus

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    • Epic Healthy Planet or EpicCare certification required
    • Epic Clarity Data Model and/or Caboodle Data Model certification a plus

    EXPERIENCE:

    Required: At least 3 -5 years of experience in either of the following:

    • Business application design, development, and installation, or

    • Significant healthcare background with demonstrated abilities in the applications arena.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Epic Clinical EHR knowledge with strong preference for existing certification in the following areas: ambulatory, decision support, registries, dashboards, slicer-dicer and workbench reporting.
    • Knowledge of the assigned business area’s products and processes.
    • Strong technical knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business.
    • Strong understanding of project management concepts and documentation for planning and implementing projects in a complex environment.
    • Strong written communication skills, including technical writing.
    • Strong verbal communication skills across all levels and departments within the organization
    • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; a demonstrated track record in new concept development for various projects and complex technical plans.
    • Ability to solve problems often spanning multiple environments in a business area
    • Efficiently manage time to provide a high level of output
    • Understanding of how IT can impact our organization and the ability to link it to redesigned business processes
    • A team player who is flexible, friendly, congenial, and enthusiastic.
    • HL7 knowledge is a plus
    • Report writing skills are a plus
    • SQL querying knowledge a plus
