Job description

Tasks

BeÂ aÂ part of an agile, experienced cross-functional team that owns the search system end-to-end
You experiment with, improve our Search algorithm, and optimize our OpenSearch cluster on AWS
You design and implementÂ the backendÂ servicesÂ that make up ourÂ searchÂ applicationÂ using technologies such as Rust, Typescript, Python, Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK) and AWS cloud services.
You write tests and contribute to further automating our CI/CD pipeline
You are empathetic to users and care about user feedback and usage data
You keep up to date withÂ theÂ latest trendsÂ in Search, ML, and Backend development
You become a great mentorÂ and help your colleagues to grow
YouÂ workÂ with Kanban or Scrum and constantly strive to improve our way of working
You are readyÂ to laugh. Daily. Multiple times.

Requirements

Experience withÂ buildingÂ searchÂ enginesÂ using OpenSearch, Elasticsearch or similar technologies
SolidÂ experience as a Software Engineer with experience in implementing scalable servicesÂ using, ideally using languages like Rust, Go, JVM-basedÂ languages, or TypeScript
Experience with working inÂ aÂ hypothesis-driven environment, e.g.,Â A/B tests,Â focus on customer metrics,Â staged releases
Experience withÂ AWS or other Cloud providers,Â ideally,Â Lambda, ECS, API Gateway,Â Event Bridge, SQS, SNS, OpenSearchÂ andÂ experience with CDK and SDK
YouÂ striveÂ to buildÂ testable,Â predictable,Â and simple code
Experience in Docker, Git,Â andÂ CI/CD
Proficient English language skills
A positive mindset and the social skills to work in anÂ international and distributed setup, and desire to learnÂ from customer feedback.

The team

We help users of our platform to find and leverage the insights they are looking for. It is a perfect moment to join our team and help shape Statista's search system. We are currently reimagining our search experience from UI/UX to algorithms and data processing. On the way, we leverage state-of-the-art technology, will experiment a lot and will celebrate both successful A/B tests and those which were not successful. If we learn something, then thatâs great! There is a lot that we still need to develop and luckily, we have a lot of freedom and support to do so. This position can be on-site, hybrid, or remote. Our team works remotely most of the time, but we meet occasionally for workshops, hackathons, and having a good time in Hamburg.
