Job description

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced MS SQL Data Architect to join our team. As an MS SQL Data Architect, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the Microsoft SQL Server databases and related systems in our cloud and on-premises environments. Your expertise in cloud platforms, DevOps, and database management will be crucial to the success of our projects and applications.


Responsibilities:

  1. Data Architecture: drive the roadmap and maturity of the backend of a data analytics data warehouse and reporting project.
  2. Database Management: Oversee the Database Design and Development of MS SQL Server databases (2019+). Develop schemas, procedures, functions, and jobs to support application databases and data warehouse databases.
  3. Cloud Integration: Utilize your extensive experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) to set up and manage databases in cloud environments using services such as RDS, Azure SQL, and others. Perform cloud migrations from private cloud to public cloud and set up production services on various cloud platforms.
  4. DevSecOps: Employ your expertise in DevOps practices to facilitate continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) for our projects and applications.
  5. Cloud Security: Ensure the security of cloud-based database systems, implement IAM policies, and utilize monitoring tools such as CloudWatch and CloudTrail to safeguard our cloud resources.
  6. Database Architecture: Collaborate with application teams to define cloud architecture and design plans for hosting complex workloads on premises, Azure and AWS.
  7. Support and Troubleshooting: Provide L3 and L4 support for application production issues, both on-premises and in the cloud. Resolve technical problems related to databases and related systems.
  8. Use database performance monitoring tools to evaluate reporting health and ETL performance and scalability. Provide code review, mentorship and leadership in writing code that is efficient and scalable.
  9. Data Security and Compliance: Work closely with the IT security team to align database security measures with industry standards and regulatory requirements (FISM, NIST, DHS, FedRAMP, etc.).
  10. Development Support: Assist development teams with database-related tasks, including schema design, T-SQL coding, and ETL development.
  11. Knowledge Sharing: Participate in knowledge transfer sessions, create documentation, and share information with team members to stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in MS SQL including
    • 4 years in BI Analytics (Data warehousing, Data science).
  • 2+ years of experience as a Data Architect including
    • experience on cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud services, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Extensive knowledge of ETL services such as SQL Service Integration Services, BCP, SQLCMD, SSDT, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL database Export/Import.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server versions 2019+,
  • Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, including Agile/Scrum and Waterfall.
  • Experience with cloud security measures and IAM policies.
  • Knowledge of scripting/coding languages such as PowerShell, C#, Python, and Shell scripting (primarily for use in ETL and SSIS)
  • Previous involvement in cloud migration projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with web-based technologies (.NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS) and service-oriented architecture.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint Online framework (Lists, Export/Imports)
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • IT security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM) will be an advantage.
