Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for managing and overseeing the company’s financial activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing strategic financial insights.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS or other relevant accounting standards.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial data.
  • Provide detailed financial analysis, including performance variance analysis, cash flow management, and financial forecasting to support decision-making.
  • Ensure the integrity of financial records, maintaining compliance with local and international accounting regulations, as well as insurance industry-specific requirements.
  • Manage and optimize accounting processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices for operational efficiency.
  • Oversee tax compliance and assist with the preparation of tax filings, ensuring timely and accurate submission in line with tax laws and regulations.
  • Lead the coordination and completion of external audits, liaising with auditors and ensuring that all audit requirements are met.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, such as underwriting, claims, and product development, to ensure alignment of financial reporting with business operations.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior members of the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Support the Finance Manager / Financial Controller in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial forecasting processes.
  • Monitor and manage financial risks, ensuring the business remains compliant with financial regulations and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of financial strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives

Requirements

Must Have Skills/ Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) as an accountant, with experience in the insurance industry.
  • Proven expertise in insurance accounting, including underwriting, claims, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and insurance-specific accounting requirements.
  • Solid experience in financial reporting, budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of managing and developing finance teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and tools (e.g., MS Dynamics, AP, Oracle, Xero, or similar platforms).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • A proactive, results-driven approach with the ability to drive financial performance and process improvements.

Advantageous:

  • Experience with IFRS 17 (Insurance Contracts) is a significant advantage.
  • Experience working in a start-up or fast-growing environment within the insurance sector.
  • Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA are highly desirable.
  • Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, dynamic environment.
